Hi guys, I'm flying VX LAS-LAX then VA LAX-SYD

My Virgin America flight was rescheduled which leaves me with a 9 hour LAX layover. What are the chances VX will check in my luggage from LAS to SYD?

If they don't, has anyone used LAX Luggage Storage.com - For your baggage storage lockers at the LAX airport ?

I'll be there on a Saturday in a few weeks so I'm thinking of going to Venice Beach to waste a few hours. Is this a good idea? Any other ideas?

edit: alternatively, will the Star Alliance Lounge store my bags? for the day? (this would be ideal!)

Not on the same ticket, unfortunately. My VX First seat was purchased using VS points, I can't imagine the PITA of getting that changed a few weeks out

I'm leaning towards a day rate at an LAX hotel and a taxi to Venice

If you weren't planning on drinking heavily at Venice / in LA, you could also rent a car for the day and drive yourself, which would give you a place to store your bags and also the freedom to move about.

I did this last weekend, drove down to Laguna Beach, had a brilliant Mexican lunch by the beach, a walk around, did some shopping on the way back to the airport and then flew back to Australia- was the first time I've been in LA and not hated it!

Also if VX changed your flight unwillingly, can you get them to schedule you on a later flight, if there is one (assuming there's any F availability?)

I don't think the Star Alliance lounge would be an option as it is airside, and as far as I'm aware you wouldn't be able to take your luggage through to the lounge. I think your best bet might be as suggested - either hire a car or look at getting a day room at a nearby hotel such as the Travelodge at LAX For LAX Travel Layovers .. Hotel Day Rates, Day Rooms 9AM - 8PM Travelodge LAX on Century Blvd. .

Thanks everyone. With a bit more research and thought, I transferred points from my work AMEX to SPG and will book a free room at the Sheraton. That way I can take my luggage with me in case I decide to go for a swim at Venice beach and freshen up properly before my overnight to SYD. And now I'm pleased of the change in plans :)
