Laptop stolen [after being left behind] at BNE Int [security screening].

I’ve had security guards tell me to walk through when the X-ray machine has stopped and my tray is stationary on the non-screened side. I politely decline and let other people walk through until my bag goes into the machine.
Same. I always keep an eye on the bags and walk 'in sync' with them. I also keep mine padlocked in case some keen employee finds something and decides to have a look before I get to the other side without my permission.

Some of us have no option but to be separated from our bags. With a knee replacement whether I go through the scanner or Xray I will be separated. The thing that annoys me with the body scanner, apart from Japan,is that they have you facing away from your bags.

The OP mentioned that the cc had been charged for pay TV subscriptions which would indicate someone else has it unlawfully.

That indicates that the laptop has nothing to do with the unauthorised transactions on a credit card.

Think about it, if you have no conscience, and you have acquired someone elses laptop, and you are smart enough to grab credit card details, is the first thing you gunna do is subscribe to Netflix (or whatever)?

No, I’m not ‘thinking about it’. I am not wasting any more time on this till the OP who has been on AFF in past 2 days makes some comment on all the helpful things that AFF has gone to the trouble of writing, and preferably says ‘thank you’ at least for the advice and gives some feedback about it.

I hate it in places like SIN and BKK where once you pass Xray and it has beeped they make you stand away from your belongings. I always try to have an eye on my belongings in case someone feels like helping themselves to my holiday funds.

I think you give thieves too much credit for their intelligence (or at least some of them). I've had compromised cards on a couple of occasions and yes the first few transactions were on low value fairly trivial purchases. It's quite common to start small and then scale up if these initial transactions are successful.

As opposed to places where if you beep they make you go back remove belts and/or shoes and pass back through, so there is no hope of keeping an eye on your belongings:eek:

At SIN, I think the gate based security helps, as the thieves are in the holding pen and is more difficult to just disappear and also for laptops and the like there is a tray numbering system where you get a card with you bin number which, in theory, you have to hand back to security to get items in the tray back.

And really for flights going to/from SIN, if someone is going to help themselves to your holiday cash, it will be after rummaging through your hand carry luggage in the overhead lockers during the flight whilst you are fast asleep. :p

Not from me they won't. I never understand why any male ever keeps their wallet in carry on. Passport, phones, wallet are always in my pockets. I can feel my wallet occassionally when I am sitting down but that's only a very minor inconvenience. Just like wearing socks. Or singlets.

the last log on activity from the OP is the same time they posted on the weekend ......

Well, not from what I recall. Having gone back to check, the second log-in no longer exists? Apologies to Alyopsis if he has not been here since Post # 1 on Sunday morning.

I have been following this post closely ( mainly because of the other post in open discussion - new poster rants ) thread

The OP of this post was "offline" before the first reply was posted in this one

Thanking those that do not believe the story? I wouldn't be back either.

There were plenty here that didn't doubt the OP or jump to wild scepticism. But I do agree it does leave a bitter taste in one's mouth.
