Which hotel will you be staying in?

Langham Place Mongkok. The value in the club rooms is amazing. Champagne (the real kind) 6pm until 8pm with wonderful canapés and alcohol etc during the afternoon. High Afternoon tea with handmade chocolates and pastries etc. We've been there twice now.

That's awesome - is the high tea also complimentary (or part of the room rate)?

Yup. If you book the club rooms. As is breakfast anywhere in the Hotel. Snacks during the day (I think now they've even added wine and beer during the day but not sure of that) but certainly soft drinks and eats (chips and bikkies etc), high tea, then their happy hours when the real "things" come out with excellent canapés.

The fitness and spa areas are beautiful on the top floors, as is the pool.

Wow - I've had a look at it looks amazing! I'm taking Mum there next year so that will definitely be on the shortlist of places to stay..

What is a good rate for a club room? I can see them from 2600HKD (~$357 AUD)

All reviews seem to be good except for this one:

No way is this 7th best in HK - Langham Place, Mongkok, Hong Kong, Hong Kong Traveller Reviews - TripAdvisor

I have to disagree with those that rave about this place. Having just visited the Langham in Chicago, I find this place art down in many ways. The main gripe is the building and location. NOTE: this is MONGKOK. For business and tourist travellers alike, you are far from HK and not even in Tsim Sha Tsui overlooking HK. While there is a local authenticity to the place, it is simply not a 5 star setting or building. For example, there is a busy bus terminal right next to the hotel entrance (see photo). The rooms are perfectly decent but not up to the high standards of their other properties. All the more puzzling as this is a Chinese chain so HK ought to be a flagship site.

No way does this compare to the Island Shangri-La, Mandarin or even the Conrad or JW Marriott. Moreover you are nowhere near the HK Express train stations so it is a bit tedious to get to on arrival and departure.

Thoughts on how accurate this is?

Have stayed once and found the location ok - for a family trip. It's horses for courses.....HKG has become extremely expensive and this is a decent substitute for the more flashy/expensive located properties.

IMHO the Four Seasons is the pick of the bunch.....but they make you pay for it!

The Langham is very handy if you're into plumbing and hardware supplies.

Re: Qantas HK Lounge

I can't really compare to the 5 star places at Tsim Sha Tsui or on the Island. That's because I always end up staying at the Langham Place! Also always get a club room!

I find they leave the Champagne out until well after 2000hrs. I think the value staying there if you use club facilities is great, and usually seems much more affordable than some other 5 star hotels.

I actually like the location as well. There is a MTR station attached to the hotel, so you can get into town as quick as you like, and its a pretty short taxi ride to the airport express. Mongkok is a good place to be IMO.

That's my thoughts anyway, can't recommend it more highly....

Re: Qantas HK Lounge

It is located in Mongkok which is local neighbourhood. I'm thinking they ignored the huge mega mall right next to Langham. There is an MTR stop in the basement. I've walked around the area on my own at night. The staff are exceptional. I guess each to his own. All I can say is that I return to Langham Place whenever in HK.

Not sure what the plumbing supplies comment is all about.

There is also the sister hotel The Langham in TST proper which has a very nice and petite lounge with a Alice in Wonderland feel to it

IMO both HKG & SIN are overpriced for quality hotels nowadays.
I recall top end hotels, (not so many many moons ago) in both countries could be experienced for AUD <200 per night.

Do you mean the Langham Place in Mongkok? It's not walking distance to Tsim Sha Tsui or Central, which most tourists associate with Hong Kong, so it would be a bit of a shock ending up there by accident, but Mong Kok is a busy and interesting place in its own right. In any case, the hotel is right on top of a rather sizeable shopping mall the Mong Kok MTR station, where you can get to Central in 12 minutes for HKD10.80 ($1.50).

...not just hotels. The influx of people and money from China has driven up the cost of nearly everything.

Precisely.. additionally the nouveau riche fuelling their own fire frequenting the ubiquitous (China origin) stores across the 'Fragrant Harbour" City.

Just light-hearted, I like the Langham as much as most here, but check out Canton Rd next time.

Personally, I would ignore all reviews based on a hotel in a poor location. Surely, you would've done your homework to find out where the hotel actually is and how to get there? Even then, for those who love street markets, Mong Kok would be the best place to be based in in HKG.

And for the record, it's located only a few mins away from an MTR station. The bus stop for A21 to/from the airport is also <500m away.

Langham also has a flagship hotel in TST, for a higher price.

Given I am usually in HK on my own, and as I think Langham Place is pretty special, and I only get there every couple of years, I will probably stick with it.
I am thinking the negative review came from someone who doesn't think the Chinese influence in Hong Kong is a good thing and would prefer the Brits had kept it. Not that it has changed with the handover, just that they'd prefer China had never played any role in the creation of HK.

...
It's more a review of the location rather than the hotel - and from subsequent posts, rather an inaccurate review as well.

Re: Qantas HK Lounge

I've stayed here before and we enjoyed it immensely.

there is the ladies night market nearby as well as the Tim Wo Han Dumpling (Michelin star). Easy to get from there to TST on the MTR. and a cab from the HKG express station to the hotel is about $10AUD.

Re: Qantas HK Lounge

Been to HK many ties, last month Mrs Lime and self tried fully refurbed Marco Polo Gateway Hotel at waterfront, on club floor with excellent food choice, booze and top flight service (everywhere). Most of all the room was twice the size of normal hotels we've stayed at over the years, even had room for a couch. Price was USD$2K, take out club floor and breakfast worked out around $1K for a week
