Airbus us now "24 Hours" although in the "wee hours" the buses are scheduled ½ hourly.

serfty, are you going Kiwi on us?

Back on topic, that's such a relief. Organising a shuttle in the morning that early is a nightmare; I won't even go on about the taxi fare to the airport.

Okay... this is VERY wierd (and 3rd time lucky). I first tried replying to all, thanking your posts but that's disappeared into the "black-hole" of the www... Second post met with a "can't post weblinks" due to having less than 10 posts. Okay, except my response didn't have a weblink...!!

So, here goes lucky no 3.

"Thanks all" for your suggestions. I'll post my thoughts on LAN once I get back to Syd.

Cheers,
W

It sounds like get up at 4:00am reach airport by about 4:30am check in and go through to the lounge then I guess board the plane about 5:30am.

I get to do it all on Monday morning; what a great way to start the work week.

Auckland Airbus does now run a 24 hr service

AKL airport at 5am is not busy:p

I have to check for you tomorrow.

Will_e; Did a post you were trying to quote include a weblink.

Looking forward to the weekends adventure, I can't see sleep being a huge priority.

If you quote someone else’s post that contains a web link you’ll encounter that problem. I’ve had a few occasions on here that I’ve lost a reply (though not due to AFF, due to my internet more likely), so generally copy the reply if it’s large.

Good luck on your flight.

Interesting to hear people's comments of LA801 not posting. I did this flight nearly 3 years ago and it did not post automatically. Apparently the details LAN had forwarded to QF had me in economy in a non-earning class. A copy of the itinerary and the boarding pass soon cleared that problem.

I learned that lesson as soon as I started mixing 3 Mobile broadband and Windows Vista....

Hi all, just a quick report on the flight back (for those interested).

Was picked up from the hotel in AKL at around 3:50pm (it was a struggle to wake up, and I think I was still drunk...!! ), and managed to get to AKL airport at around 4:15am.

The QF J check in was open, so walked in there. However, the lady said that she couldn't find my booking (when I passed over my passport and Q-card). When I mentioned that I was flying LAN, she said that I'd have to check in at the LAN J counter. So... no pre-immigration clearance for me :(

The J check in was relatively painless, and (perhaps unsurprisingly at that hour) there was no queue at immigration. So, pretty much straight through and up to Q-club to sober up a little more.

The flight was called and boarding commenced for the 5:50am flight as stated on the BP (5:05am). Thought it was strange that there was such a long time between boarding and flight - we spent a good 20/25 min waiting. Push back was spot on time, and the flight arrived 25min early! The seat was excellent (for one who's used to TT Y on the 737's), as was the service (efficient).

Thanks for all your help on the forum.

On a side note, I'm (finally) on the last work trip for the year, before Mrs Coyote and I head off to EZE, USH and IGR in Dec :D.

Thanks wile_e for the TR, that confirms where I need to go in Feb to check-in when I'm on the OMG flight.

A similar deal as wile_e yesterday for Bundy Bear and myself. We caught the shuttle from the Airport HI at 0400 and checked in at about 0420. BB showed me a few of the AKL Hilton sleeping spots then we headed to the QP for a coffee and toast. Boarding was at 0510 and we wandered down to the gate to get onboard about 30 min before the scheduled push back.

J was only half full (22 of 42 seats occupied) so they moved everyone into the front 5 rows for the trip and left the 2 row mini cabin empty. We had seats 1A and 1C which were no better or worse than anywhere else.

Push back was about 5 min late and we were off for an uneventful trip to SYD. On arrival there was a few minutes spent at duty free then we both used Smart Gate to get through the customs line. Baggage collection was quick then, oops BB lost his arrivals card. This was sorted with a new card and off through screening. We both had honey from the tours in Hawkes Bay so baggage X Ray was required. This was quick and we were both through and on the way to the transfer desk. There were no other issues and the transfer was smooth and a little less crowded than usual. On arrival we headed for the J lounge where we had coffee and waited for JohnK who was on the same BNE flight as BB.

Nothing else exciting from my perspective as my domestic flight (1030) was on time and on reaching MEL I collected my car and headed off for the 3 hr drive home. That was by far the hardest part of the trip as by then I had already been up for 11 hrs after a short nights sleep. I arrived home at about 1610 and had to be out for a primary school concert at 1800, though I did sneak an hours sleep in between.

Thanks for the TR, straitman but I'm a little confused by your comment:

BB showed me a few of the AKL Hilton sleeping spots
Were you meaning to say AKL Airport sleeping spots???

Sleep deprivation will do that to you  (or is it old age )

Posts on FT indicate AKL-SYD way never seems to post automatically.

More than that, the online claim generally rejects.

You'll probably need to contact QFF directly.

My LA801 AKL-SYD posted automatically for me, but it took 7 days for this to happen. I actually put in the claim via the online system (no rejection), then when still nothing happened for 2 days I called QF. Another 2 days or so later the points and SCs appeared...and then about another 20 days later I got a line in my statement saying that my LA801 claim had been rejected due to duplication (i.e. the online claim had fallen flat - not surprising since forcing it from QF call centre beat it to the punch).

The timeframe was not too bad compared to my JQ Star Class experience, but then again I was pretty impatient (these were the crucial SCs I needed to get WP for the first time... search for the TR if you want to know more...)

More from an experienced WLG based WP FTer

Experienced he is; whether he will be a WP for much longer is a different story. ;)

Thanks for the tip guys. My SC and points didn't post, so I submitted an online claim over a week ago. Haven't heard anything, but the website did say to allow up to 14 days.

Looks like i'll be calling QFF to get this done too.

anat0l, from my one and only StarClass experience - my points and credits posted automatically. This was when I accepted a paid-upgrade to StarClass on check-in (KUL-SYD when JetStar still flew that leg).

Thanks to all members for their help. If I don't have a prior opportunity, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Nice...a PER/ADL/SYD/AKL return.....

Likewise, the only way I'll get re-qual'ed Gold will be an early February SYD/AKL/SYD LAN in J, nested inside a BNE/SYD/BNE on QF (over on a Sat, back on Mon).

The good thing about the return flight is that I can fly straight back to BNE and work...but can see it being an early to bed Mon night.
