anyone else flying this today? Sitting in AKL QP at the moment

Oh gosh! Have a nice flight ;)

The SYD-AKL-SYD seem dearer but the AKL-SYD-AKL are still available at the cheaper rate. I looked around and found the same answer. I'm not sure why unless they believe they can skim a few more $ without affecting loads significantly .

Looks to be that way, little upset I didn’t get on this when it was cheaper as it’s no where near as good value anymore. Though a positioning flight to AKL and $617 return from there isn’t bad.

Also unseats my plans to get my mum to SG by using deals such as this :(

Interestingly, the LAN US site prices SYD-AKL-SYD for dates in August at 624 US$ (ish) inc tax.. The AU $ price is 1098. $624 US does not equal $1098 AU at current rates... I don't know if you can actually book this on the lan.com US site though.

EDIT - and AKL-SYD-AKL is coming out at comparable prices in AU/US $ exchange rates on LAN US and AU.

On a trial run it looked like LAN would let you input an AU card
billing address without issue. Looked promising.

Had the same problem with the LAN site - no option to select anything other than premium business and getting the higher priced fare only. I could see cheaper fares on other online flight booking sites so knew it must be available.

I decided to try the LAN call centre and was able to get the cheaper business fare SYD-AKL return for June without any problems. USD 635 on Oz credit card (no fees). Fare is non-refundable and there's a $100 charge for any changes. The phone line quality wasn't terrific so make sure they have names spelled correctly.

Cheers, M

Welcome to AFF Margaret. That's about the same as what karens paid for hers, but she was able to book it online.

To get the cheaper Syd-Akl-Syd J fares (usually around AUD$700), whilst you can still book on the Lan US site, with the plummettiing AUdollar, it is now a bit more than AUD$700. I booked instead on the Lan European site and paid in Euros, which came to around $711 before the AUD also plummetted against the Euro!! Later I realised (kicking myself for not checking earlier:oops:), I could book it for AUD$696 on expedia.com.au, and importantly you can pay in Aussie dollars with a points earning credit card as opposed to the Wizard MC I used to pay the Euros.

Staying at the Ventura Inn as recommended here for my O/N SC run in 2 weeks. Am I right by thinking I should get to the airport around 420-430am for my Lan J flight Akl-Syd at 0550am (hand luggage only)?

I did this before and ended up waiting half an hour for immigration to open, can anyone confirm what time it does? No point in getting there before that...especially with OLCI

<edit> can't remember the time myself as was in a zombified state after 3 hours sleep on my way to work . . .

According to anat0l in Post 57 of December last year:

Immigration doesn't usually open until at least 0400h and for me it only opened at 0420h. Things might have changed since AKL I got a face lift, so YMMV.

From my experience, checked in around 3:20, eventually got placed on NZ101 due to delay. Loitered about the QF premium check-in at 3:40 regarding a onward connection. After that went promptly through security and immigration before 4am and into the NZ Koru lounge - so I must of got lucky. But really, why would you want to be there that early if you have a hotel for the night - lounge vs. bed; bed wins?

I just ran a query on the LAN site for AKL-SYD 2nd Aug and return some time in October. I did it several times from several country bases and then came back to the original Australia as home country. Prices were about the (same subject to exchange rates) and the $625 (approx) return fare is still available.

Try Syd-Akl-Syd instead on the Lan website, and you will find this signifcantly higher @ >AUD$1000 on the Australian site as opposed to the other countries' site:(

As far as AKL immigration opening time, it depends upon what outbound flights there may be.

Last Sunday morning, it was not open at 04:25 but was open at 04:35 ( was elsewhere and did not see the actual opening).

Dependant on status of course, but bed = sleep, and possibly missing your flight. Lounge = free alcohol, coffee and anything that’ll keep you awake and set to make your flight :p

The free alcohol at 0500 is not really of much interest :!:

Blasphemy, champagne breakfast is da bomb ;)

In the J lounge, sparkling breakfast is decent ;)

The sadists amongst us may take some comfort in the beer or perhaps the harder stuff.

Besides, the breakfast is only continental. So much for the whole champagne breakfast deal.

For myself, I content myself either with a simply glass of sparkling (if I'm in the mood), else just a coffee and possibly a glass of milk.

Now for my Asia run coming up, we'll see how we go.

I struggle with coffee and toast at 0500 let alone beer or bubbles :!:
