I'm sure it's just me, but it seems a bit lame that the current QF promotion on "cheap" business class seats, ie booked into Business Saver, doesn't apply to solo travellers.

Great, thanks Qantas. Glad to know that my business a solo traveller is worth nothing.

I think it's a pretty well thought out deal. During the travel period there is minimal 'business' travellers travelling and therefore targetting holiday makers, which are generally 2 or more people.

Yes, I recognise that it is targeted at the "leisure" market, but what if you don't have a partner...?

What if your partner / friend / lover is in another country and you fly there by yourself.....

Still bah.

Emirates offer much better deals / quality than QF on the NZ sector so guess it's back to them again.... :(

Not just Qantas that does it, but other airlines as well. For example Malaysian airlines has a similar deal on at the moment and is cheaper than Qantas for most (maybe all routes).

I think the rational behind it is to attract leisure travelers. While business travelers who typical travel alone still have to pay the full fare. Of course not much use if you want/need/have to travel alone.

Just wait business saver fares appear every once in a while.

... just book from another country. Amazing how often QF have Business sales from other countries for singles.

I agree, it's annoying. BUT - it's a clever marketing ploy to ensure that business travellers pay full price (more common for them to be solo than pairs/triples etc)

And it should be noted it's hardly a new promotion. It's quite tempting, and if I were closer to a goal I might even actually consider flying with a friend.



QF not the first or last to use a 2-4-1 type of promo, sucks for the solo traveler but oh well.

CX did run one last year was it that was pretty decent as well.

And single travellers are not leisure travellers?

As replies have stated it is a common practice by other airlines.

I'm in the same situation in most travel is solo, other promos i.e. double status points (not offered to me since 2009 and had just booked RTW a couple of weeks earlier and no time to take advantage) and comp PS/SG/WP for next year offered this year (but already had another RTW taking SC to over WP - so useless).

It is what it is - sound unfair – no - just a fact of life.

Just wondering if it makes sense to start a post like lounge access where the solo fliers from same locations list date/s they are/would like flying/fly, destinations and how long to before they would like to make booking for responses.

You win some, you lose some. That's just how it is.

haha true.

What gets me though is that I can buy TWO tickets under this deal for LESS than the price of one to Auckland for the single loser, sorry, traveller. Now, how about that!

If that is the case then buy two tix and the second pax could fail to board?

I did think of that, but what actually happens when you check in and the other person doesn't, and you're on the same booking?

what if you book both tickets, then cancel one. Does anyone know if you'll get the lower price for the one remaining ticket? Given the below, what would actually happen if you cancelled one ticket, or as suggested only one passenger turned up at airport. Would you be denied boarding?

From QF terms and conditions on this sale:

"Note:
If this fare is part of the Global Business Class Sale or the Qantas Business Class Sale, two or more passengers must be booked and travel together."

True.

I know all airlines have these gimmicky sales but it would not hurt to have a 50% off sale for everyone as well as the buy 2 pay 1 sale.

Even with these so-called specials, there are better airlines with better business class deals, and you don't need a companion to get them.

Or could you buy two seats because you want the extra space? Is that allowed and earn both FFP/SC for both seats?

I agree, for similar J prices to AKL you might as well jump on a proper J class like onboard an EK A380.

Would this still work within QF terms? Good idea, though!

Yep, that EK 380 sure makes QF flight on it's 737 across the Tasman look like a joke. I have made that comment (more than once) in other posts, that's for sure!!!

I was using the QF flights for status towards my (lowly) SG, but the damn business flights seem to have jumped in price again, to almost DOUBLE the price on EK, so it's becoming a tough decision....

Also, the EK lounge in AKL is so much better catered than the QF one. Anyone have feedback on the Sydney EK lounge? Being QF SG I don't get access to the First lounge, and the QP isn't that amazing there, either.

A new EK lounge upstairs has opened at AKL. Access via the same escalators/lifts as the QF and NZ lounges.

It's not like checkin agents know what type of fare it is, they can just accept one person if there are multiple names on the booking.. I have no idea if anything would happen to the return fare though?
