Lack of curtains separating Business and Economy on 737

Just a question. If you are travelling in row 4 why would you get business class headphones and a glass of champagne ? Is this not for passengers who have paid a considerable amount of money. (way over $177) in business class for that privilege. If a passenger in row 4 gets that treatment then would not every passenger from that row to the back of the plane be entitled to the same treatment.
Sometimes the cabin crew will give ‘extras’ to Platinum or Platinum 1 Frequent Flyers.

Actually I already know that. What I want to know is if another passenger who is not a WP or P1 asks for the same treatment what happens?

It used to be quite common that platinums would occasionally be offered service items from higher cabins... glass of champagne (or vintage champagne from first class if they were already in business class), an amenity kit from the higher class, headphones, even PJs.

Problem was that these were being offered right at the time when Qantas had a major problem with champagne running out in First.

Not sure if these benefits are still routinely offered. If they are to be offered i don’t think it should be done until right at the end of the flight (headphones excluded). That way problems with supply are minimised.

Privilege or a right ? Does money or points upgrade give you privilege? Does the Business curtain divide that privilege? I have the right to know. :eek:

And to add IMHO there lies one of the real underlying issues with why the forward toilet is used by row 4,5. A sense of entitlement by some

Let me get this right. Are you saying only a CL or P1, WP traveling in economy are ? entitled/privileged to get that service over another passenger sitting their who is not but having also paid for an economy seat just like the CL, P1 or WP is not entitled to ask for the same treatment. By the way I am a WP

Good point you are right. It is your right as you have paid for the right to be in business class, irrespective if it is cold hard cash or points.

Not domestic. I was referring to international flights.

Last month travelling SYD-SIN I was in bulkhead in the rear cabin. CSM was coming up from the back with a list in hand and handed me business class headphones and welcomed me on board.

A few minutes later a flight attendant walked down with a glass of champagne from business. I did not ask for it but I gladly accepted the pre-takeoff drink and will continue to do so.

Before the meal service the CSM came around and asked if I wanted a drink so I orderes a sparkling as I'm over drinking beer on board. This was offered again to me a few times throughout the flight.

It was a lightly loaded flight.

Sorry maybe I have misread what was being referred to. If you are offered business class headphones and champagne then from the post it appears to me that it is referring a the passenger sitting in economy (Ie row 4) being offered this. If they were already in business then that would not apply

Sorry JohnK was not implying that you asked for it. All I am pointing out was is if another passenger seen this who is not CL, P1 or WP and known to the FA and they ask can i have some to, do you think they will be accommodated with the service

No I didn't infer that. Nobody above Gold, or even Gold or below, is entitled to different service although they should feel privileged if they do receive it.

Yes I agree with you but I suppose what I am trying to point out is if a passenger with a lower level or no status asks can i have the same do you think that passenger would be given the service.

If this was a QF flight I can understand why it was lightly loaded flight. They are all defecting to other carriers.

I have had a similar offer but on my moral grounds I declined as I did not want to set a precedence in front of other 'Y" passengers (who may not have the same status level) and that may not get the same offer. I would not like to have another passenger think they were being discriminated against if they were not given the same. Lets see if any of the DYKWIA brigade are about

Just a data point, flew CHC-MEL as a SG not that long ago and the FA proactively offered me the same service in 4A as the higher status pax in 4C received, as in J drinks in a real glass vs a plastic cup.
 
Then again back to the topic. I have sent an email to QF (just so I can experience the automated response) as has been suggested by some here with a ? on the curtains /rope to fence off the business class area again. I can just imagine if they did introduce a rope all the DYKWIAers doing the high jump and sprint to the finish line. Sorry had to be like that but this thread is really quite amusing. At the end of the day we all just have to use plain old common sense about the whole issue/non issue and yes I hear you say sometimes plain old common sense is not that common. No popcorn

The comparison with certain Y passengers receiving champagne/ other amenities is not valid.

Being offered champagne by the CSM is an unwritten recognition of loyalty/status.

Being offered the J toilet by a CSM is a recognition that the passenger is an entitled coughroach who’s barging down the aisle during cart time and realising that acquiescing is better than standing ground (risking an indignant wanker spray) or having to move the cart all the way back to accomodate his/her selfishness.

Not the same at all.
