wouldn't that make it an excellent everyday credit card?

It's not a credit card, it's a stored value card - you have to put money onto it first.
And points are only earned on overseas spend. This much they have said.

Quite likely it won't be usable for purchases in Australia at all.

If you receive the card and don't activate the cash card portion, does it really matter? You won't be charged a monthly inactive fee, you won't get stung by poor exchange rates etc.

The only two downsides I see are:
- Another contactless card in your wallet which may cause interference with other contactless cards stored nearby (eg paywave/work ID badges / transport smart cards etc).
- A new card design that some lounge staff may not be properly briefed on, and entry to some remote/partner lounges may take a bit more time.

Its a discrete "Qantas Cash" thing, not QFF in general, by appearances.

The snapshot of the email above states otherwise - can use in Oz. "Earn points in Australia and overseas".
Can't see myself using the thing if there's a fee attached. I pay exactly zero fees on all my debit cards/accounts. Essentially that's what this is. Pretty sure most of us already have points earning cards now so why pay an additional fee for another one, unless the 9 extra currencies (will be interesting to see the exchange rates) appeals, or there are better "bonus points" available.
I like the idea of a points earning debit card for those who don't trust themselves with, or can't get a cc though.

Personally I'm looking forward to getting mine, lost my original QFF card years ago...

It's not really the same a debit card. It is a pre-loaded cash passport type of card. These all have decent fees.

Didn't get an email unfortunately, and I really would see the value in this card (pending fees) as I can't get any sort of credit :( and thus, no points earning on spend... I want to double dip like all the big kids!

Red Roo, could you be so kind as to include me :)

Edit: That said, this link seems to register you: http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/registration-of-interest-qantascash

OK, reads like it could be used as a Debit Card though - email states pay bills, make purchases, MasterCard PayPass, shop online etc.. The currency thing could be handy if on a RTW or visiting a few countries. Depending on rate of exchange. My last trip I was more than happy with the Visa exchange rate when I made purchases/withdrew cash - done in the country I was travelling in, not our less than favourable rates here.

Time will tell

Yes it can be used like a debit card. But similar produces to this have fees involved, unlike debit cards. They are also designed to be pre-loaded with foreign currency, and ISTR at poor exchange rates when loading. Here is an example from Travelex: Multi-Currency Cash Passport Card - Manage Currency Online - Travelex

I don't know if the qantas one will be the same, but these cards are generally pretty poor value. The PDS is here with the fees page 14/15: http://www.travelex.com.au/uploaded...s_and_Conditions/Multi-CurrencyCPP_PDS_AU.pdf

I've yet to see one of these types of cards have a decent fee structure. I hope this card is better, but you'll be paying for any point earning that the card may have.

When I said decent fee structure, I meant decent for the card issuer not the customer. ;)

I've used the travelex multi currency card a bit, and whilst the rates aren't the best they could be, I haven't found them the worst and have not yet encountered any fees per se.

I also got the email..
Has it been confirmed that these new card types (debit card feature) will eventually replace all current card types (no debit card feature, just for status ID and QF dom BPs)?
