Even being on a JQ codeshare, there will be a QF PNR for the underlying QF35 or QF37 flight. You will need the QF PNR in order to select seats via the QF website.
Have the QF PNR as well, it wont work either.

The bells and whistles of a better flight are great, but I want to be seated with my husband, so wanted to select seats now, not on the departure date when everyone else has already checked in

If you are both on the same reservation, I wouldn’t worry. QF tend to be reasonably good a seating together passengers on the same booking. If you are on different bookings then I would definitely persist with trying to get seated together.

That's strange. Keep calling Jetstar, I think a lot depends on the person you speak to.
We booked 2 trips this year economy PER-SIN-PER when Jetstar had the return for free sale. 4 PAX for $605 return, bargain!
Both trips Ive since received an email saying Jetstar is no longer flying that route and we have been changed to Qantas.
I tried to be cheeky and looked up the QF flights on those dates and called Jetstar to try and get put on a QF flight on a better time that wasn't listed as a replacement flight.
Jetstar couldn't give me the QF flight I wanted but they assigned our seats together without hesitation.
I suggest just calling Jetstar back until you get the answer you want.

Not completely ... this is a simple daytime flight.

In many ways the JQ business seats are better suited for such a 7 hour trip.

Daytime/night time makes no difference to me. I'd much rather sleep on the plane and have a great night out on arrival than be tucked up in bed in a hotel by 9pm :(
