Use some common sense - they would hardly put out a piece today saying "no changes to Qantas Classic Award bookings" and then announce changes to Qantas Classic award bookings tomorrow. That would be stupid in the extreme.

I don't think they would do it either but I also don't think doing something stupid is beyond any airline.

"It seemed like a good idea at the time."

Jetstar Classic Awards: Less points and more destinations

Just received the email today from QFF regarding a reduction in points

"We're excited to announce that we've made it easier for you to be rewarded with Jetstar. We've changed the number of points you need for a Jetstar Classic Award,* shaving 20% off the current points levels[SUP]+[/SUP] to any Jetstar destination.

Better still, you can now use your points for Classic Award flights on Jetstar Asia, Valuair and Jetstar Japan (that's flights with a 3K, VF and GK flight number). This means that fewer points can now take you to an even greater number of Jetstar destinations: around Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the South Pacific.

The new, lower points levels[SUP]+[/SUP] apply for all new Jetstar Classic Award bookings made from 8 April 2013 on Jetstar (JQ), Jetstar Asia (3K), Valuair (VF) and Jetstar Japan (GK) only or any combination of these carriers. You can of course continue to combine Jetstar Classic Award flights with other partner airlines; the points you need will depend on the routes chosen".

Re: Jetstar Classic Awards: Less points and more destinations

Ok news for Perth i suppose seeing these days we only have one Int QF flight in and out per day and the rest is being given over to Jetstar...

Re: Jetstar Classic Awards: Less points and more destinations

Good for me also to visit rele's in Sth Oz, CNS-ADEL down to 14,400

Not quite true, half of the two canned flights were given over to JQ, the other (unfortunately) flight was canned without replacement

Re: Jetstar Classic Awards: Less points and more destinations

Anyone have examples of the reductions?.

To me the most likely reason for this change was to become more competitive with Virgin redemptions. However it is no secret that 3K is not doing so well, particularly long haul, and there are people out there who will see the 20% saving as not insignificant on a long haul redemption.

Oh but I am :)

Some say the grounding was stupid, yet it was the best thing QF has done in recent years......

Also as mentioned above, and using more common sense, the rumoured changes are to ASAs and not classic awards so QF saying classic awards staying the same could be correct, for today!

I can't seem to see any J seats on CNS-NRT for the rest of the year, usually there is heaps of availability.

Whilst this is positive news, I don't know if it's going to be all that useful for those who value their points at >1c/point, time will tell.

I just looked at a few random dates for travel one way SIN-BKK on 3K (Jetstar Asia). I could only find "classic" award availability for travel on flights where the commercial fare was $100SGD or less. Choice becomes $100 SGD (or less) + taxes or 9600 pts + taxes. $100SGD = $78AUD. or 81cper point. Myer vouchers come at 71.4c per point, so it is marginally better than that, but not that much.

It depends on the destination, and the prices. On SIN-HKG, the lowest value I can get to is 0.55 cent (AU). And then there's the added complication of trying to use a Myer voucher in HKG or SIN... (impossible)...

So good - I have always hated flying them if it was a Classic Award because you don't get the same value as if you were flying QF

Presumably these bookings include baggage? It doesn't specifically say anywhere in the booking process.

HNL though?

The email from QF says:
Every Jetstar Classic Award booking includes a complimentary checked baggage allowance,˜ giving you even better value. And if you treat yourself to a Jetstar Classic Award in Business Class, then food, beverages and entertainment are also included.

I made a dummy booking on 3K, and it states that 20kg of baggage is included at the review stage of the booking.
