Media Heads Up - QantasFrequent Flyer redemptions for less: Qantas Frequent Flyer will today
announce new Classic Award points pricing, enabling members to book Jetstar
flights for 20 per cent less. In a further expansion of the Frequent Flyer
program, members can now also redeem points on Jetstar flights to more than 20
new Jetstar Classic Award destinations across Asia through the Jetstar Japan and
Jetstar Asia networks. The improved points structure will differentiate Qantas
and Jetstar-operated flights and see Jetstar Classic Award seat redemptions
start from 6,400 points (plus taxes, fees & carrier charges).

Will this see an increase in Qantas ASA as well perhaps? Or am I just bring jaded?

About time. It was always a bugbear that one paid the same for the inferior offering provided by Jetstar.

Lets just hope to heck that they don't call this an 'enhancement'. Then we really should worry! ;)

So does this mean current level remain as if for J* and the QF ones go up? Wouldn't put that past them!

See the quote for your answer (handy hint: Qantas redemptions start at 8,000 points).

And from the above link for the skeptics

Note: The improved points structure applies to Classic Awards on Jetstar only and is subject to availability. There are no changes to Qantas Classic Award bookings.

Not skeptical just facetious. On another note probably the big changes that were being referred to earlier last week where the rumour arose about the xASA's being canned.

Some of this may well be from the ACCC approving JQ/QF cooperation across all the JQ brands now.

I can also see how this would *improve* yield for 3K - instead of purchasing a ticket on SIN-KUL for ~$30-40, one could now redeem 6,400 points (plus taxes) on the route. If QF had been paid 1 cent per point, I can't imagine QF would restrict many seats on this route from points redemptions ;)

Call me a cynic, but could this mean JQ isn't doing as well as we've been lead to believe, so some discounts are being offered to get bums on seats?

Maybe, or
- People are sick of paying the same amount and getting JQ service
- QF are announcing this before the real "enhancements" tomorrow to ASA/Classic awards etc etc
- Gives people an incentive to fly with JQ instead of QF, so gets more people away from QF

So many reasons why QF have done this!

Will wait for tomorrow to see what else happens, but otherwise this is a pretty great step. Well done Lesley. :)

I know JohnK would shake his head, but I reckon a lower redemption rate for JQ flights starts to make them pretty competitive against VA or QF redemptions too.

Which bit of the direct quote There are no changes to Qantas Classic Award bookings in the announcement today was not clear to you?

What part of me saying that there may be announcements tomorrow or the next day was not clear to you ?

So going off your "logic" because QF has said this today, there are no other changes coming ?

Cool story

Use some common sense - they would hardly put out a piece today saying "no changes to Qantas Classic Award bookings" and then announce changes to Qantas Classic award bookings tomorrow. That would be stupid in the extreme.
