JQ Business Max fare - no seat selection

I booked a JQ Business Max Fare DPS-MEL a couple of weeks ago for next week - looked to be the last seat.

I'm unable to select my seat, chatting to JQ online and having the issue escalated I just keep getting told that I'll be allocated a seat at the airport. Smell like they've oversold - and now I can see the Economy cabin is sold out.

So what are my chances that
a) I'll be downgraded or
b) I'll be bumped

Infuruating since I tried to work with them 3 weeks before departure to understand the issue but they have no interest in doing so, instead just fobbing me off to the airport staff.

So it seems the only way to get allocated seats 1G or 1J (or 3G/3J if they aren't being used by cabin crew) is waiting until all selectable seats in business class have been taken and the message pops up saying "you will be allocated a seat at check-in"?

which actually sounds a bit of a bonus! Those are some prime seats. Might try it in future if 1AB have gone :)

For some reason JQ have not been allowing seat selection in business out of DPS for some time. I don't know about economy.

It's happened to me on two flights. I changed my first flight but both flights could not get seat allocation. It happened to the other pax on the flight as well. It also happened when I made a few dummy bookings on other dates and tried to select seats.

I ended up with 3G allocated at checkin

The aisle seat? Out of interest was anyone next to you in 3J, crew maybe?

1AC and 1GJ are definitely the best seats in Jetstar Business IMO. Have to book early for 1AC and have never been able to select 1GJ. They must only allocate those after the remaining seats are sold (though the booking portal still won't show you).

I guess there's always the risk someone else will turn up with a baby and ask to move to those seats (due to the bassinet). Would hate to end up in the middle seat of row 2...

Interesting! I'm flying MEL-DPS-MEL business next week, had no issues allocating seats in either direction. I did notice all flights on that route are "unavailable" (not sold out) through Oct 17.

I tried extending my trip a few days but later return flights came up with the "your seats will be allocated at check-in" message, so I figured the flight might be overbooked and avoided them. But based on this thread, that probably meant seats 1GJ or 3GJ were the only ones remaining.

When did you book it?

Whatever is happening is odd. And I know for sure it's not just "overbooked" flights.

It happened on any flight I chose DPS-MEL that had seats still available in business. And to other pax as well.

Booked my flights a fortnight ago.

A few days ago there were DPS-MEL flights on Nov 11/12 (now sold out) that had the "we'll allocate seats at check-in for free" message.

Cabin crew aren't permitted to have rest in the business cabin so they should not be in 3G/J.

3GJ are blocked for use by the tech crew as their rest area on longer flights however. As a result these seats have extra recline.

Sorry I was in the window - 3J. There was another normal pax in 3G next to me (not crew) and his mate across the isle

Maybe the seat selection issue is only if you book a one way DPS-MEL which is what I did. Maybe if you book return there is no issue selecting seats?
