I don't think these are just snide remarks, In these days of mobile phones and photos everywhere, I think they are a unjustified attack. If you are going to come up with this rubbish, prove it!

Oh and somewhere back towards the start the OP admits they exaggerate. They may well live in fantasy land ?
Oh dear there are no "attacks"on AFF are there.
As far as the OP's initial winge I don't regard them as snide remarks as I have experienced very similar fails on QF.I report them in my TRs with photos

I report them in my TRs with photos
Exactly, you report them in a level, constructive way with photos to prove your experiences and allegations, otherwise, depending on your accusations and the "tone of voice" they become an attack

Some sage comments from drron (again) which some posters could do well to reflet upon.
FWIW comments like the one suggesting QF pyjamas are ill fitting are certainly not "rubbish", and hardly need "proof" - anyone who has ever worn them knows the comment is true as a self evident fact - no further proof required.
Credibility (note: not "credence") comes from respecting others' plausible personal opinions and showing common sense, as opposed to being argumentative just because one can be.

I had similar experience as newbie posting a rant about QF customer service but luckily I have thick skin and no issues dealing with random keyboard warriors. The problem is other newbies may take offence and not post anymore.
A few years back the trend on AFF was to lay into new posters that made any sort of complaint. It was the same people all the time with one person in particular the first in most times but thankfully that practice has stopped.

Everyone has a right to complain. First post or 10,000th post.

Oh come on, seriously, do you really think there are that many "others" who "like" to attack others deliberately. And at what stage to you consider "others" who don't agree with the poster, to make a "real" contribution.

As I said, they are minority. Every large forum has a few rotten apples, it’s the way it is.

There is no need to post photos. Anyone who flys QF on regular basis knows bad service can happen, sloppy food can be served and hard product can be disappointing on some aircrafts. The only rubbish I see in this thread is attacking the OP’s credibility just because they have low post count, disgusting behaviour towards new members.

Yes, I've seen this behaviour here on several occasions.

I think the big problem is that there are many people whom have created an account, posted a massive rant about their airline of choice, sometimes justified, sometimes because hating certain airlines is trendy. To then just to then disappear from view.

I can understand why certain members get jaded by these posts because rarely does the OP stay around and become valuable members.
Perhaps a solution would be to vet new members first few threads, if a new member signs up and immediately creates a new thread that thread should be flagged for review before it's allowed to be posted. Pure rants should be blocked from brand new or low post count members, and only if the thread contains a valid question, for example - "Airline has lost my luggage and I'm not getting any help from their support phone number, what can I do?" should the thread be allowed to be posted.

I don't necessarily mind rants. We've all had that less than stellar flight, but I kinda feel that you should earn the privilege to have a rant and have contributed towards this forum in a positive way first.

Exactly. I think there is a huge majority of first-post rants that just disappear afterwards. Those people add nothing to the site.

I couldn’t disagree more.

Under this proposed criteria EmilyP’s post may not even have been allowed. Which generated significant and worthwhile discussion.

The solution is potentially simple. Anyone who doesn’t like a rant is free to stop reading.

What i don’t understand is how people can even be upset by a rant? what skin is it off their nose?

I don’t get it either. Why can people not join and have a rant.

If they don’t stick around it’s probably because of the somewhat rude reception they get. This is not a secretive select club - it’s an open, accessible forum on the internet and everyone is entitled to an opinion.

It doesn’t matter if they don’t stick around beyond their original post. It doesn’t affect any other users.

I was thinking exactly the same today but couldn’t remember EmilyP’s name.

Personally don't mind the one post wonders anywhere as much as those who continually cross post over and over how they would never fly airline X in the airline X thread (pr similar posts in the same style). If you don't want to fly them/stay there/whatever that's perfectly fine by me but unsure why the perpetrators have the need to troll threads they have no real interest in (except perhaps to help us better understand how much they like to whinge).

I find issue with those who use their first post to rant, and will attack those who have a differing opinion.

It happens more often than not.

A question for the pro rant people, if all rants from first time posters was placed into their own sub forum, would you visit it?

One of the things I like about AFF is that I believe most people here actually travel, thus even if I don't agree with what they have said, I still believe it comes from a place of experience. A new members rant I have no real idea if they travel a lot, it was their first flight and years of TV and movies gave them unrealistic expectations or they are a troll pure and simple. In my mind I put that sort of thread from a new member on about the same level as a news.com.au comments area or a travelers letters to the editor page, aka not a lot.

You are right, there are a few members who have gone on to be active members of this community, however for every one ranter who sticks around to become a valuable member, there are many other one post wonders who are simply looking for a platform to vent. My question simply is, should AFF be giving them that platform?

Yes, i would visit the forum. It would be a huge part of what would make AFF interesting to me.

AFF is also a business, part of that business is attracting site visits. It makes business sense that AFF should give a platfom provided posts do not breach AFF rules.

You don’t actually need to know how often the person travels, or if they’re a once a year flyer. In a way, this is where experience comes in... the more often you fly, the more readily you are able to identify with the issues being raised in a post - or not. For those who fly QF frequently, many of the points raised by the OP have cropped up at one time or another. The fact that multiple issues all came together on the one flight might be rare, but it’s not inconceivable.

EmilyP’s post is a good example. You might have dismissed her out of hand. But in fact it was a very important post, and with so few posts on that topic on the internet, every one is an important data point.

The question for anti-ranters - still not answered - is why does it cause such grief? How does it affect you? Maybe if we understood that we could look for a solution.

I don't go to individual for a but each morning peruse the new posts pages. If the title interests me I look.So a first time ranters forum would mean no change for me personally.
However If you are going to limit first posters from ranting maybe we all should be prevented from ranting.
Then a pretty dull site at times.

That’s my strategy for browsing the forum too. Which makes the Header very important in grabbing my attention.
