It seems JQ is very close to launching "Jetstar Entertainment +"

The recent survey asked questions about it however the key points were:

- Not app based instead via browser (www.jetstar.tv once onboard).
- $6 to $10 for access based on flight length.
- Ability to order food/drinks through the portal.
- Seat backs will have an ad on them with details of the offering.

Personally I think the only real benefit will be ordering food/drinks through an app reducing the wait time. Would anyone actually use this service for entertainment?

I would consider paying for seatback IFE on a long-haul flight.

I would not personally pay for IFE that I have to stream to my own device on a short-haul flight. I normally just listen to podcasts.

I’m sure some others are aware but Jetstar is planning to roll out domestic streaming IFE to passenger owned devices.

It’s project named ‘Jetstar TV’ and is planned to be priced at $6-$10 per flight to access movies, tv shows the usual suspects that one would expect.

Timing for rollout is TBC.

It isn’t clear if internet access is going to be included, doesn’t look like it though.

Personally I wonder wouldn’t most people have content on their own device pre-downloaded via a streaming service they have already got a contract with….? A lot of people traveling Jetstar / Virgin do this already because of the lack of entertainment on Jetstar and the very old sparse content on the Virgin system.

Anyway we will see, just thought I’d share.

I think IFE is an easier sell if the airline provides the device. On recent JQ 787 flights I saw two people swipe their cards to activate the IFE. One did it to keep their child amused. The other did it because they saw a movie they liked while swiping through the movie options.

If a passenger was organised enough to bring their own tablet then they probably also have their own content.

I usually just save a heap of content from Netflix, Stan or Plex to my iPad instead of using IFE anyways. However the F&B ordering will be useful, especially if you can use in conjunction with the meal deal from a bundle.

“Ancillary revenue” - and they can leverage most of the content from the QF IFE contract(s)……

It will be interesting to see how they bundle this with the fares. In particular, as someone who is now exclusively flying JQ MAX fares, it would be nice to have the IFE/Wifi option included.
