Doesn't look half bad and the extra leg room is nice.

Look forward to seeing it once the product has been rolled out.

With DJ & QF getting BSI, and JQ new refined seats. There seems to be a lot of changes to aircraft cabin's this year.

What will TT pull out of their hat?

I'm not so interested in the iPad holder but I like the new seat design. I like the mag pocket high on the seat with less overall width.

I have seen these used on European airlines and was wondering when AUS was going to see them.

I find it extremely unlikely that TT would have Wi-Fi and QF or DJ wouldn't.

TT pax would use the Wi-Fi to facebook about being on a plane for the first time.

QF pax would get some work done.

IIRC JB was saying that Wi-Fi onboard in Australia is 5+ years away...

Love the seats, and the modular IFE. If they go to town on jailbreaking / customising the iPads with their own interface / XBMC I can see them being great replacements for the existing bulky units. I'm assuming that in order to maximise revenue, they won't be offering seat-back attachment for pax own iPads of course.

Also intrigued about this fee-for-points thing - planning some flights in May, either QF or JQ depending on possible double SC promo. I'd certainly consider it, but only for $10 or less since that's effectively the nominal cost of the points themselves (the counterpoint being that I can't imagine JQ would be selling them for equal to or less than their nominal value). I seem to recall someone raising this as a possibility / question in an earlier thread here. Was it you QFCSA?

More interesting would be whether such flights would count towards QF sectors for qualification, or if JQ would finally be considered a part of OW.

Funny how the Qantas group seems to be going after DJ with Jetstar. Seems JQ want to leave the bottom of the market to Tiger...

Yep, but also Qantas want to do anything to hurt DJ in any possible way!

Assuming FF points (for a fee) are possible on JQ then it makes DJ's product harder to sell given it usually has a higher price.

Funny that recently a few work mates of mine booked JQ, and thought they would earn FF points as they booked through the Qantas website and entered their FF number. They said "I should have flown Virgin Blue instead"

Interesting times ahead

Finally, somebody has figured out that they can put the stack of magazines and reading materials into somewhere else other than right in front of your knees. By doing so, you would magically get an extra inch of leg/knee room.

This seems like a good enhancement to both IFE and seating. Hope the refitt continues onto their A330 long haul routes in the future.

Together with the consistent sale fares offerred, it would be quite a pleasant flight, when you weigh up cost/benefit.

What happens when the person in front reclines their seat? Will the bracket be adjustable so the screen remains at the right angle?

What happens when the ipad user starts tapping away hard enough to bother the occupant in front (perhaps a child playing a game)?

This already happens with the screens in the seat back. I've seen some p'd off people when the person behind presses too hard/often, particularly when there's a lag in response and the behind person presses harder thinking the presses aren't registering.

Whoever thought touch screens attached to the seat backs was a good idea was not an economy customer.

With the current touchscreen IFE systems there is also the option of using the remote.

The iPad should be much more touch sensitive so hopefully no need for touching to escalate to som push n shove :)

Couldn't agree with you more. I think the touch screens are a stupid idea. It affects the person sitting in front of you and then you have all those greasy finger marks to clean off and god only knows where those fingers have been...

I hope that the cabin cleaning process following each flight, and prior to the next, will include every iPad screen being given a wipedown!

And Jetstar will need to be sure they use a liquid that's compatible with the iPad's touchscreen because common commercial cleaning liquids will contain chemicals that react against the touchscreen's composition and eventually eat away at the top layers.

Also they will need to recharge these after every flight so the battery is full and ready for the next user. Sounds like it's all going to be a bit labour-intensive to me!

Not the case at all.

We recently spoke with Apple about a bulk purchase of iPads for the industry we work in (circa 500).

Not only can you get the STUPIDLY cheap, you can get them customised to what you want...

They'll probably get a bunch of first generation ipads? I would imagine they are going dirt cheap now...
