Hi everyone - this is my first post ! Husband and I are travelling to Honolulu next week on Jetstar and have booked Y seats in Row 44 (exit row) on one side (config is 2 - 4 - 2). Chose this spot due to envisaged additional leg room and closer access to empty seats in the middle for sleep due to flight being an overnighter. Plane is the A330-200. Is my choice of seats a good one or could I do better ?

Hi AngieP, welcome to AFF.

Hard to do better than those seats other than going in the pointy end. :D

I presume you are on JetFlex fares to be eligible for exit row preallocation.

Thanks for the response Serfty! Booked tix Melb-Honolulu on the intro special over internet last year but couldnt do exit row seat allocation at that time. Checked in over Easter and was then able to change seating to exit row. Have received my pre-trip email confirming exit row seats. Hope there are no surprises at the airport next week ! Might get there when check in opens just to be on the safe side.

I hear the airport lounge is taking deposits to confirm an overnight seat in the public lounge areas!!:p

JQi's website seems to stop holding seat allocation for the first few rows and exits, exclusively for Jet Flex customers, at some point (a week?) out from a flight. I have just changed some allocations on my Jet Saver fare, to previously blocked seating.

Thanks for the tip!:)

I booked with JQ late Feb to fly SYD-HNL on a JetSaver fare (incidently on a tip from you, Serfty, about how to get to CHS in the most inexpensive way - many thanks, it's worked out well). Was able to book seat allocation in exit row.

Indeed, looks like the seat allocation restrictions other than the front row (23) seem to have been removed for Jet Saver JQi fares.:)

Thank you Robert Barlow, I have just scored a heap of exit rows for the rest of the year... :D

(JQ A320 seat allocation for Jet Saver has changed as well...all exit rows & row 1 ABC are now open where available. 1DEF is still blocked, this side of the JQ A320 has a bulk head, whereas the 1ABC side is open, like an emergency exit, and slightly more forward from memory with only 1 window. I.E. If you board & sit too early you will be trampled by other passengers boarding.)

Thanks, I'll check that out ... :)
Yep, me too (44B) for my flight on a QF codeshare HNL-MEL. Previously I only had access to the jetsaver rows, now most of them. :D

Also now in 1A on a couple of promotional $20 fares I booked for August.

Seems the bassinet positions in row 23 on a 332 are still blocked however.

In speaking to the agent; I asked the question and to quote her "Yeah ... this is a recent change and it's great! It has made it a lot easier for us and out customers :) ".

Hi AngieP,
we flew to Honolulu with Jetstar last month and as the plane appeared to be less than half full, I booked the two aisle seats in the middle row at the back of the plane (row 50 I think). As soon as the doors closed I moved to the empty row in front and claimed the four rows so we both had four rows to ourselves, great for an overnight flight. You need to be quick, the empty rows got claimed very quickly despite PA announcement from the crew for passengers to remain in their allocated seats. The food is pretty awful though.

Thanks for the tip Aggie ! I was in the tent with you on that one - had the quick dash for hubby in the game plan - lucky he's athletic! Looks like the plane is now filling up a bit - could be the strong Aus$/US$ - last minute bookings to take advantage.

It's amazing how many people who don't travel very often seem to be clueless about placement on the plane for a long trip. My last trip to the US was with my sister who is Qantas FF Platinum - she had First upgrade and I was on her points in Y. She did some 'persuading' at checkin and got me in row 24 in the lovely little cabin between Business and Y that has about three rows of seats. Had four to myself all the way from Melb to LA! Got the same on the way home too ! Thanks Sis ! Placement is what its about!

May I express welcome to AFF Aggi ... :D

On a full flight exit rows can be a godsend in WHY; on a half empty flight maybe not so good as you have more to move to those 4 seaters down the back.

At least with JQ, you can recheck your seat selection to see what has been preselected and maybe move id it seems appropriate.

For me, on the Daylight flights HNL-Oz an exit row is just about perfect as I try not to sleep.

Methinks there was a bug in the software; now rectified.

You can no longer select exit rows on jetsaver fares.

However, my current exit row selections still stand.

hi Angie
have flown once with jetstar domestically and it was nothing but dramas, attempted to fly again with them from darwin to newcastle and it again had turned into a total mess

I am off to Hawaii (the off to the Continental US ) in a week and a half. I'll see how we go now I know we can check in this far ahead.
I pray for a half empty flight but I don't have that sort of luck often  Are the exit row seats narrower than the other seats ? ... the plane isn't the only thing widebodied

If you are in economy, be aware that sometimes the arm rests don't move if in an exit row by a door style exit. I often took the row behind and found I would have an empty seat.
I am not sure what others might say, but if you take seats A & C (instead of AB) then that leaves B & D open. Unless there is a single traveller that wants a seat in the middle (or it is a full flight) you may have an empty seat to yourselves. If there is a single px they will most likely take the aisle in which case you can still have an empty seat between you.
If you find someone gets B, I don't think any px will care if they move from B to C.
This applies to 747's, and may not be for J*

Thanks, I found on a cathay flight once that I simply didn't fit
I got off my butt and looked at the seats we got. Not too bad but a bit close to the toilets. Fortunately the plane behind us is nearly empty. I'm tempted to leave it and hope that there are no more bookings and I will get a row of 4 to myself... perhapsd I may be able to sleep on a plane if I do
