Wow, thats good prices for *C, sure double it return but not bad at all since that includes all the taxes for both people if i read it correctly.

Tempting, but I have no one to travel with. Will wait for a discounted sale to come along again I think, instead of a 2-for-1.

BNE-SYD-MEL-DPS on JQ6517 (QF codeshare), JQ35, JQ35

40 + 40 + 100 SCs for $620, i.e. $3.45/SC.

Not a bad SC earner at all and you'd get to visit two F lounges if you're WP.

I have a question about this sale - hoping someone can help

we are looking at a RTW trip and are tossing up booking individual sectors or a RTW ticket

The Melbourne-Honolulu looks like a great price - is this the sort of sale that comes around often or should I be jumping on this?

Has anyone seen that type of fare ie $800 one way direct to the US (west coast) rather than honolulu

I thought that the QF segments are now in QF Economy not Business.
Plus on JQ35 SYD-MEL-DPS, won't you just get SCs for SYD-DPS (eg QF108) as a single flight code.

So by my math (ticket price is $1320 oneway for two)
20 + 100 = 120 SCs / $660 = $5.50 / SC
(still not too shabby)

Just looking on j*dot com

so Mel - HL is about $3100 for 2 people and the flight from
mel-syd is on a QF plane but it says economy class.

I guess you can use the QF lounge at Sydney.

Am i right at assuming you would get about 12000 FF points for this
deal?

Flying JQi out of SYD you get access to the Qantas international J lounge. IF you are WP, then you get access to the Qantas international First Class lounge.

With point earnings, it's as for Business, 5,074 base and 1,269 cabin bonus each way or 12,686 overall.

Note that in addition to this, QFF elites also earn status bonus from 2,538 for PS to 10,148 for WP.

Currently doing a SC analysis on the sale. :p :D

There is a typo on the promo page: they have SYD-KIX (via OOL) marked as $1349 for two people, but in the promotional column (i.e. the one which says "That's $xx_.xx per person!"), the price says $647.50.

A bit of elementary arithmetic will tell you that is obviously incorrect. I'm not sure if there are other prices on the page are similarly flawed.

EDIT: SC analysis complete - see below. Notes:
  • Price is based on 2 pax in the same booking (as per special)
  • Rates and prices include taxes but exclude credit card charges and other extras
  • Classes: J = QF domestic J; C = JQ StarClass
  • Rank is based on best AUD/SC rate
  • SCs assumed per sector (even if same flight number is on both flights); travel in JQ Y to connect to an intermediate gateway point assumed to earn full Y SCs.
  • As always, E&OE, please check before booking. ;)

Some OK fares for SC value below. Some of them actually turn out to be cheaper than the promotional page's billing (but almost make it up again due to the credit card charge). The search engine is also confusing because when you choose one of the "J / C" routes, the engine gives you the JQ6xx_ series connector flight but on the left hand side it says "Domestic Economy Fare". This doesn't update if you select the Star Class column, which leaves you in doubt as to whether this means if you buy the Star Class fare are you flying the connector in Y or in J. Since the full itinerary is never given to you until you confirm the booking, you can't verify this either. :(

EDIT: Table updated, hoping that futaris's later post confirms that travel on *C fare all the way through an itinerary automatically books QF domestic fares in J...

You left out the BNE-SYD-MEL-DPS flights:

Code:

BNE-SYD-MEL-DPS J / C $ 1320.00 80 + 100 = 180 $ 3.667 / SC 1

NB, this is of course assuming that SYD-MEL-DPS (JQ35) posts as two separate flights, i.e. like SYD-OOL-KIX or SYD-OOL-NRT supposedly does.

I noticed that. But does the BNE-SYD sector book into J if you select the *C fare?

I was a bit concerned because the left hand side says "Domestic Economy Fare". I guess you could ring up JQ and find out......

Anyone want to go to DPS for a few days, anyone got flights in mind for the return; it would actually be nice to actually go to DPS after being on the flight to Melbourne a few times.

If the SC maths are correct (and it is indeed J to SYD), you've got me interested (not hook, line and sinker). ;)

A return BNE-SYD-MEL-DPS would give me the SCs I need for WP requal.....

Just booked MEL-HKT return using this deal. Very pleased with the SCs, although frequency of flights means I could only stay either 3 or 7 days. I chose 7 days... looks like a lot of sunbathing and scuba diving. I'm also pleased to see that Priceline offers bidding on various regions within coughet! :o I'm not so keen on the overnight flight home but I managed to snare seat 2D for this horror flight.

BTW, has anyone else noticed that if you book one-way say MEL-HKT but not return, that the one way price from HKT-MEL (quoted in Thai Baht) works out a fair bit more expensive after conversion? It seems to be the same with all other one-way legs back into Australia under this promo including Indonesia. I considered flying to Singapore or a nearby Oneworld city and using points on the way back in biz but 60K points is so not worth it when you have that many SCs on offer for such a small amount of $$$. And it seems there's no Oneworld lounge in HKT - the thought of having to slum it in a public airport venue with others is giving me snob-schock already - Oh the pain, how will my ego cope.

Just called Jetstar and although the agent I spoke to was a bit shaky to start with, it seems that for an itinerary booked in Star Class with JQ6xx_ (QF metal) flights, the JQ6xx_ flights will be flown in Qantas Domestic Business.

Now very tempted to book..... :p Anyone want to tag-team? :D

I think Bundy Bear might be tempted but he needs a few days rest at the destination rather than a quick return back ;)

It's not possible to book a turnaround in the same itinerary - the search engine enforces the 120 minute connection time for international flights.

In saying that, it is possible to book one-way fares both ways and side-step the search engine's constraint, but it's near impossible to find cheap *C fares that take advantage of the 2-for-1 sale (there are 2-for-1 fares, but they are higher *C fares). On top of this, the connection time of JQ35 and JQ36 is 65 minutes, which is cutting it fairly fine in anyone's language and making it next to impossible for JQ (who have a strict 60 minutes before departure check-in time).

Also, it looks like the special is being booked into standard Star Class compared to Promotional Star Class, where the former can be cancelled (for a fee) but the latter cannot.
