Have anyone flew Star Class to Japan (Tokyo)?
What are the type of food served, seats comfort and the service level compared to other non low cost carrier. As it will be almost a 10 hours flight, what are the movies available for these routes.:)

anat0l has recently done this trip, so I'm sure he will pipe up soon.

i've done this twice. Well actually once to KIX return in starclass (last November) and one to NRT return, just a week ago.

All flights were Starclass ODU's from jetsaver fares.

Each leg Starclass was less than half full so we were really able to spread out which was great.

Food on the way over is a hot lunch with about 3 or 4 choices and then a light supper before landing. On the way back (overnight) its a hot dinner/supper and then breakfast before landing. I should add that they bring a dessert trolley around after the main meal which is usually some sort of yummy cake or cheesecake, coffee, sometimes cheese, and they also offer chocolates, biscuits, snacks - really you are NOT going to go hungry. Booze is all inclusive of course.

Seat comfort is fine, its the old QF business class and while its no skybed its pretty comfy for a day flight and for the night flight with a sleeping pill I can get quite a few hours sleep.

Video on demand units are given with quite good noise cancelling headphones. Choice is not massive but quite adequate.

I would say service is pretty excellent in starclass given that its a lcc. For the price (if you ODU) its really very good IMO. Dont think I'd pay upfront for starclass though, but that is just me.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

May I ask you how much it cost for the ODU? I was under the impression that the cost of an ODU is the difference between the fare paid and the * class price. I am interested to know a) how much you paid for a one way flight and b) the additional cost of the ODU?

I alway spay to fly * class when doing the MEL-BKK-MEL run which I do once a month and it migh tbe worth checkign loads and taking a risk on a ODU if it really does save money.

I believe the price differential is usually the difference between the jetflex fare and the starclass fare. In my case I always book the jetsaver fare which is considerably cheaper. So in this case you really are saving quite a bit. I try to get to the airport 3 hours before so I'm first in the queue. I then go straight into the starclass checkin line and just ask for the upgrade. In OOL they usually have the little sign out about upgrades being available (its small though and easily missed). In Japan they have no clue and you have to ask. Last time it took them nearly 45 mins to process the upgrade and this was with the manual in hand! Probably a combination of Jetstar's new system and the fact that it was JAL checkin staff doing the checkin at NRT.

ODU to each of the Japan destinations is $250 AUD from Aust and 20,000 yen back from Japan.

I hope this helps!

Cheers

The price has been in the past the difference from the JetFlex fare and the Starclass fare even if you paid the Jetsaver fare.

So if you paid $274 current jetsaver fare then upgrade for $240 then the price would be $514.00

Jetstar may not give you points on SCs or points on upgraded fares.

thanks for the information. I think I might give it a crack on my next flight. Will keep loads checked to enhance my chances, if loads look bad will just try a different month.

Yep I do that too. Good luck with it, I'm sure you will enjoy starclass more if you know you've paid less for it! I do anyway :)
