Jetstar launching Brisbane-Bangkok route

It would be great if JQ put on a direct flight from Australia to USM.
Not going to happen!

IIRC, there are restrictions on size of aircraft that can use the airport, and the biggest aircraft that flies there is the A319. The SQ group used to fly there (SilkAir) using A319's but when these were phased out, they withdrew the service and only came back once they (Scoot) acquired the Embraer-E190.

Has anyone flown this in economy lately? I'm looking to burn my QF points on BNE-BKK (transit) - MCT (3 days) - IST using JQ and WY on the latter 2 flights. For BKK I would probably just stay in the airport overnight. Just want to make sure it's reliable and not too bad. It's at least a Dreamliner, right? I was trying to transit via KUL but I can't get award space on MH BNE-KUL.

@Tiki the 3 of us (wife, daughter and I) did this in April and it was more than ok. We paid for seats but didn't eat onboard as we had food in Qantas lounge before flight.

Can't comment on reliability as our only flight was on time but I've heard some people have has issues with their flights.

I'm hoping we do this outbound leg more often if we can find award availability.

Thanks. I have been watching Youtube videos and there isn't much difference between the Y seat in JQ's Dreamliner and MH's A-330. Does it have power points? It seems QF award doesn't include inflight entertainment or meals. For 9 hours I don't think my laptop would last the distance and it's a daytime flight.

On a side note, any suggestions on where to spend the night at BKK? I saw a capsule hotel but it's landside. Aussie passports still don't need a visa? I haven't been to Thailand in years.

I'm not sure about power points but you can hire tablet for $10. JQ meals are not that great. Have a cup of noodles or bring your own food.

As for BKK 1 night stay please consider staying in Ladkrabang which is just a few km's from airport. We've stayed in most of those hotels, a little dated but more than acceptable. Some have nice breakfast as well. Make sure you choose one with free shuttle to/from airport. Usually around $50-$70 a night or higher if you want a little more luxury.

Even just staying in the Airport unless I guess airside you will need to fill out the Thai arrivals card 3 days or less before you arrive. very easy though.
We will be on that flight next month but a J award.
As to power points there was an old thread on this -I looked for all the info I could before making the booking.

My flight to Muscat would be around 09:00, then add on check in time, security and all that so I wasn't planning on leaving the airport. I'd have to wake up in a hotel at 05:00, hope they have early breakfast, wait for the shuttle.

Shuttle service starts at 4:00am if I'm not mistaken. You'll be at airport in 15 minutes. Just make sure you book the night before.

Hotel breakfasts usually commence at 6:00am but I was blown away in one hotel they provided a breakfast box. If you do get to airport early there's a 24 hour eatery down in the basement where you can buy street food cheaply and still be at check-in before 6:00am.

If you do decide to stay in airport then head down to area downstairs opposite the stain station. Plenty of room, charging available and I just stayed under the stairs and actually got some sleep as well.

In my younger days, I wouldn't have worried at all about sleeping rough. I don't think my back could take it these days! I'd actually prefer to stay airside as long as Oman Air will let me check in online. It would be all one ticket but the only airside hotel is expensive and the capsule hotel is also downstairs landside.
