Jetstar launches Various Routes for CNS/CHC/MCY/AKL/DUD/HZL/SYD/OOL

I don't understand the afternoon departure/late night arrival of both JQ and VA, it's a waste of a day for the passengers.
Aircraft utilisation mainly. And for JQ it opens up quite a few connections to their NZ routes.

I’d imagine some of the NZ increases is due to negotiating new deals with some NZ airports who are upping fees considerably, likely part of a wider deal.

Probably. Also the Jetstar Asia redeployment helping with aircraft capacity.

Looks like some routes are coming off the overnights and onto day flights, ie CNS-CHC, and CNS-PER is another I can see,

I recall Jetstar need to overnight Pilots on any red eye, so this will obviously improve productivity.

JQ have pilot bases at CHC, CNS and PER, they can just go home!

Looks like CNS-DPS has switched back to the A320. Interesting they upped it to the 321 when AirAsia launched, now dropped back since they left.

Clearly the intention was to push them out.

QZ was also partially subsidised via the AAIF, which was considered somewhat controversial on Social Media as that didn't help with the (lack of) inbound Indonesian Tourism to NQld, but more to 'subsidise' holidaymakers (Bogans) going to Bali than help NQld with inbound Tourism.

Can they do something like MEL/PER-SIN-BKK etc?

I was just thinking some of the key 3K routes that they might want to tap into.

SIN-DPS/BKK are two key routes.

I suspect they’re trying to up DPS capacity that presently not subject to restrictions on capacity whilst utilising a key low cost crew base. Also gives them more capacity when they cancel the direct flight to Sin, not that happens too much, oh wait…….

Or they can use an A321 for MEL-DRW-SIN like the other week.

With a direct non stop, I’m not sure if the A321N is doable with a full load and cargo, MEL-SIN, but a 321XLR should be, and with Business being installed, it’s almost certain the route will end up with that aircraft.

I remember the days when Tiger ran a MEL-DRW-SIN connecting TT and TR.

JQ already fly MEL-DPS-SIN. They must want to claw back some 3K capacity by doing another DPS-SIN.

Having caught a few of the Sydney-Hamilton NZ flights since it launched, I have to say it has been a reliable service to get to the mid-North Island of New Zealand. I have caught 10 flights between the 2 cities, most has been midweek, and the load factors have been consistently high in both directions.
The 3 hour fight in a Jetstar narrow body seat is perfectly tolerable - my preference is when they utilise the newer aircraft with the USB-C charging port and device holder. The Hamilton airport does not have jet bridges, instead they utilise a staircases at the front and back for boarding and disembarking and will employ an elevator for passengers with a disability.
Departing from Hamilton, I was surprised that security used a 'modern' X-ray machine meaning I didn't have to take electronics or liquids out of carry on bags. Unsurprisingly immigration is processed manually. There is a cafe before and after security that makes decent coffee. The departure lounge is fill of natural light, though it can seem crowded when there is a full plane, but there is enough seats for everyone.
What I like the most about this route is the friendly staff at the Hamilton Airport side. I am so used to the treatment from grumpy Sydney staff I had almost forgotten what it's like to be greeted with a smile. Here's hoping this is a sustainable route that lasts (and catches the attention of Air NZ/Qantas).
