Jetstar launches Newcastle to Bali

Not sure if DPS qualifies for the NSW Aviation Fund as it is a largely outbound destination.

Perhaps it's being launched for the large untapped demand from Indonesian tourists (those who aren't teetotallers due to religious reasons) who would be interested in Hunter Valley wine tours if only they could fly directly to Newcastle... or something.

Good news for Newcastle and surrounds. Makes perfect sense.

I have to say, after my first trip to Bali in April, Bali is far better than I initially thought (which was based on all the internet comments about bogans).

I can see it now, next JQ will fly HBA-DPS soon.

I'd probably put BME, TSV or MCY ahead of HBA when it comes to DPS flights. Though BME and MCY can only handle 1 international departure and arrival at a time (as those two regional airports uses "swing" gates).

MCY-DPS might be an option for Virgin as they blew their chances with the last lot of bilats.

This will be a weird one for Pilots also. No local base so they would probably need to taxi them up from Sydney. I know Pilot’s EBAs are complex machines so it’s probably not as simple as getting Sydney based pilots to operate it without more rostering complexities.

Bali based cabin crew will probably just do the return in one hit.

Looks like the DPS flights will continue onwards to/from SIN, just like the new MCY route (JQ should hire you!)

That's one very busy 32Q! Nary a breath on either end... delays will have horrid knock on effects there.

Guess now they can market NTL will have a SIN connection. Even though it's JQ, I suppose it's only right to celebrate that there is a new route. Not sure what the target market for NTL-SIN would be (especially with no 3K), but I guess that's also why they applied for fifth freedom.

There are also significant numbers of people who now reside in the DPS area but work in the NSW coalfields, both Indonesian and Australian citizens, and some more who live in Thailand and work in the Hunter Valley so a SIN connection might be time efficient for them as well? As well as outbound tourism to Bali from Northern NSW as well, given the Australian Capital city - DPS bilaterals are at Max capacity already.
