May seem weird  but I'm actually a little excited about seeing the 2 class Jetstar International later this year...

My main issues with Jetstar domesitc have been the draconian check in timings, no seat allocations and ff earn. I actually prefer their 320's to DJ's 737s.

J*International removes all these issues for me and StarClass (which is stated to be like QF Domestic J) looks interesting plus the new routes are a bonus.

I know we all like to slag J* domestic, but hopefully they take on the learnings and make the International product more acceptable to FF's.

I also can't wait for QF domestic to get their cough in gear and implement online check in mid year!!

Yes! I assume that they have to install bar-code scanners or similar equipment at each gate because pax will begin rolling up with paper BPs that won't go through the existing machinery.

I don't think that JI will be any different than their domestic counterpart because the same people with the same mentality are running the thing.
Which is unfortunate as they have a perfect opportunity to start with a clean slate.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

This is somewhat in line with my fears for JI. There is a certain culture within JQ and I fear that and their attitude towards customers is going to flow over into JI.

Really?

Because it has been announced on qantas.com:

Mr Gurney said BPay was the latest feature on qantas.com.

"We are continuing to invest in qantas.com to meet customer demand for online self-service," he said. "We will be adding new servicing options mid-year including online check-in and the ability to book more complex multiple-sector journeys on qantas.com."

I hope that it is just you guys that are using JI and not what the airline will refer to itself.

I don't find any part of this entity, whether domestic or international, to be appealing. Their whole attitude and customer care would need to change dramatically before I give them any of my business.

I have heard that Singapore, Bangkok, Rome, Athens, Amsterdam are just some of the destinations that have been mentioned recently. They would have to offer significant discount on current carriers to these destinations to have any business. If you remember before to use AO to go MEL-SIN or SYD-SIN would cost the same as QF but no SC's and FF points

JI is an abbreviation that is being used by the news media.
Until their 2 letter code is issued we can only guess.

The issue I think will occur with J* Intl is the cheapest fares (which will be similar, maybe a bit less than normal QF fares), will not earn FF points.

You may need to buy the equivalent of H/B/K/Y fares to earn the points.

From what QF said in their recent annoucement regarding the AO closure, JQ itself would be applying for the new international routes so there may be no new "airline" or code. Just and extension of JQ.

It certainly makes more sense to continue using JQ as a code. The code is issued by an international authority, so the code already exists 'world wide'.

I suspect they'll just use a structure similar to QF, where a range of number will always be international (e.g., QF1-400 is always international, QFxx_-yyy will be domestic, then QFxx_x will be code-shares).

I agree with some of your points, but have to admit I have softened my attitude towards JQ recently - primarilly because I was forced to fly them to Christchurch a couple of weeks ago as QF was sold out.

The planes were clean, the staff are somewhere between the indifferent but professional QF staff and the fake over the top and sometimes annoying Virgin staff. I've actually never had an issue with JQ staff (either domestic or trans tasman). Its very subjective I guess, but I much prefer less obstrusive and professional service than FA's screaming over the intercom trying to play magic numbers with the PAX..

Like I said, my main gripes with JQ domestic are the check in times and seat allocations (and FF of course) - which will won't be an issue with JQ international. My work takes me to alot of LDC's and other destinations on JQ's shopping list, so I'd be flying StarClass (would get FF points).

I'd rather fly a QF group airline than some of the sticky tape and blu tack airlines that I have had to endure recently  and stick to QF and oneworld carriers on the other routes...

Would JQ international be eligible for oneworld?

I would hazard a guess and say yes but only certain airfare classes as Mal mentioned.

And I think these fares will be close to double the cheapest fares and probably 50%+ more than the cheapest QF fare. Not worth flying in these classes on JQ to earn FF points.

More than likely it would be cheaper to travel QF to nearest hub and fly LCC to desired JQ destination. Why fly JQ SYD-HKT when you can fly QF SYD-SIN or SYD-BKK earn FF points and SC's and then some LCC to HKT for around $100 return but no FF points.

Will be very interesting to see what sort of prices they charge for StarClass.

Assume that will be the case - not OW eligible.

Will most likely mean
- No FF points for non Qantas FF's.
- Only QP access (if applicable) before flight (Can't use other better OW lounges if they are available).

Plus other possible issues with baggage interline, through checking and boarding pass printing etc.

Time will tell what happens, but I have a feeling that the changes are not positive for a lot of members here.

True until we survey all the damage from the category 5 cyclone JQ we can only speculate.

Famous last words but I don't think it will affect many of us here. Just remember that more than likely there will always be some other oneworld option to get to destination that JQ will operate and if not then you get to nearest oneworld hub and then travel the short distance with LCC. There is no way I will be paying over $2,000 to get to HKT with JQ to earn FF points. Shop around, there will always be alternatives.

The product description for Jetstar International includes "Passenger interlining for international connections on selected airlines". The trick is which are the selected airlines, and will it interline with its domestic counterpart (I assume not)

I would assume interlining from QF domestic to JQ International will be done. No need for the opposite direction unless connecting to another QF international flight and hence not clearing customs.

I assume interlining will be provided in a similar way to what AO does now, with interlining agreements with airlines used for common connections, and that will then depend on exactly where JQ operate. I guess we will learn more as operation gets closer.
