Booked one of Jetstars (Australia) 2 for 1 sale fares they had a few months ago and have just received email notification of changes to te flight times. Changed to 1hr earlier and 5min later.

Are either of these changes enough to be eligible for cancellation with refund on the basis that they are not suitable and neither are the alternatives they have offered?

Good luck on the 5 mins later! The 1 hour earlier may get you some traction if you argue you have a meeting / appointment that won't finish in time. I can't hurt to try.

Had a similar issue with Tiger last week, they rescheduled my flight to 3hr later. Checked online & noticed there was a new flight scheduled for 1hr earlier than my original flight (with tickets available). Rang and (politely) asked if they could move me to the earlier flight, which they happily did for no cost. Gave me the usual spiel that "we can only change it once as a gesture of good will" but I got the change I wanted so I was happy. New itinerary sent (including same seat selection) a few hours later. Perhaps if you call Jetstar they may do the same thing?

There standard is 3 hours. I had success with a changed flight that was about 2.5 hours early after some arguing. They cancelled a 7:30pm flight and moved me to a 5:20ish pm flight.

I couldn't take the earlier flight as I had to be at work until the departure time - they asked for proof.

Technically they didn't want to play ball with a refund as it was inside the 3 hour limit. They would only move me to the earlier flight or the next flight that was at 10am the next day. I replied that is be happy to take the 10am as long as they paid for my hotel. That's when the offered the refund.

Oh and jetstar refused to move me to the originally booked flight in a different week. I thought that would e a good solution as i flight the route most weeks. But they wouldn't play ball.

So it is possible but it may be hard to argue you can't make an hour time change depending in the timing of the flights. Realistically, that might only mean a 45 minute earlier trip to the airport, all things being equal.

Experinced much the same with a 2:15 earlier change. Needed to be 3 hours.

The thing that amazed me was being asked for proof I had to be at work. Did they want a copy of my contract?

a company asking for proof in certain circumstances for certain situations is only the result of some who do their utmost to dupe companies...and quiet frankly outright lie to companies to get what they want.....its the actions of the 'scammers' that spoil it/make it more dificult for the rest of us..

IME they wont give a refund, but you can argue and not accept the change until they give you a better timed flight/voucher. The way they see it, it's their money now.

I wasn't too concerned about the reasons for being asked for proof, more about how I would prove I had to be at work at 5/530 PM and hence couldn't from Sydney cbd to SYD. Is having a full time job good enough or did I need a letter from my boss. Was it enough that I didn't want to lose an hours pay, which was worth more than the airfare?

In the end I just told them I was willing and able to fly as originally booked. I can't do 5pm. I can do the booked flight on x,y or z dates - they refused those options. I can do the QF flight at 6:40 or 8:10 pm (qantas group and all that) - they refused. I can do the flight the next morning if they pay for my hotel - that got a refund.

Maybe I was a bit harsh, I could've left work a bit early. But didn't want to, offered plenty of alternatives. They didn't want to play the game. Maybe I was scamming them, but why should I be stuffed around by them cancelling a flight because of light loads.

Thanks for the reply all. If 3hrs is their policy then I probably won't bother asking for a refund. Not really interested in spending time arguing for what will only end up being $100 or so.

It can't hurt to ring them. Just tell them the flight one hour earlier is not possible for you to make.
