Jetstar DUTY FREE Carry On prohibited

from comments in this thread it seems to apply to more airports than just DPS

But restrictions at other airports (eg BKK) apply to ALL airlines operating to Australia (meaning, it's due to the airport or the DF shop unwilling or unable to deliver to the gate). At DPS it seems to be JetStar only.

I believe that JETSTAR AIRWAYS may be in collusion with duty free outlets in Australia to force passengers to purchase duty free alcohol from Australian duty free outlets at prices that are well above that of the Asian duty free outlets. This action I consider to be THIRD LINE FORCING and is in breach of s47 of the Competition and Consumer Act

LOL - you mean the Australian Competition and Consumer Act that would apply once you have passed the border, in short no case to answer on a jurisdiction basis, Australia does not the same legislation like the US Federal Trade Commision that allows it to pursue its companies for overseas transactions/issues AFAIK.\

At the end of the day a company is within its right to make its own rules just are you are in your right to fly with another airline.

then why can i take alcohol on Air asia, Garuda and Virgin Australia?
and not jetstar???

do you work for them?

yes that would be fine if they told us those were the rules, but they dont.
they say it is a government regulation

Jetstar are just being dishonest

Could you point out how you know that JetStar claim it is a government regulation? Did they tell you this?

I have had correspondence with Jetstar on this matter
they have advised me on two seperate occasions that they are merely complying with the policy outlkned in the Department of Regional Development and Transports web site. Restrictions for inbound flights to Australia

They apologised for my inconvenience and gave me $100 voucher to shut me up.

Another contributor to this thread has been advised the same thing.
They only gave the other contributor $50 voucher.

Hopefully they will get sick of issuing vouchers and relax the policy.

I have also spoken to the Department of Regional Development and Transport to clarify the position. They confirmed that they are aware that JETSTAR is citing there website as the reason for not allowing duty free alcohol to be carried on board, and that there is no basis for them doing so.

If you have experienced this issue then why not make a complaint. Apathy will get us nowhere.
It is only if we can get numerous complaints to Jetstar that they may start to listen.

I have actually also lodged a complaint with JETSTAR on the basis that I have been given false and misleading information by the customer service manager. I have fully documented this to them. I await a reply.

Thanks, so just as a few of us suspected - it's most probably a JetStar only policy (and only from DPS). In which case it's wrong of them to claim it's due to government regulation.

We brought back duty free alcohol from DPS last year with Virgin. You collect it just before you board, and after the second lot of "water" security inspections at the gate. I think Jetstar just dont want the fuss at DPS it does tend to create. But they should be honest about their reason for denial and not sprout "security regulations". I'm getting a little weary of "security and safety" being used as a cover all for unrelated issues.

yes AUSTMAN I agree, it is totally wrong
That is the basis of my complaints to them
The more complaints from the more people the better

unfortunately AIRASIA is withdrawing its services to/from darwin so we will not have any chouice other than to fly to bali is JETCRAP
we wont have the luxury of choosing to walk to another carrier.

Altho I hear a wisper that GARUDA may be considering three flights a week to darwin, they are so much better then JETCRAP

Hi Pushka

what extra work for Jetstar?
the work is all done by the DFS staff, the airline has nothing to do with it at all

yeah, I know, but I was trying to rationalise it, a bit. Maybe the Airline has to do, um, something behind the scenes to let it happen?

I don't know about DPS but I do know about QF flights out of Jakarta. Qantas does not trust the Indonesian airport security system so it has a secondary screening - ie Xray bomb checks, the works at their gates.

If you translate this across to Qantas Group (an example of Jetstar being part of Qantas when it suits them) and then if you say that Bali is part of Indonesia (which it is) and if you distrust the whole Indonesian airport security system then you would do the same thing in Bali.

This man sounds almost as annoyed as a previous chap who had his water taken in Hong Kong.

Unfortunately modern air travel involves a whole system of silly rules which involve, amongst other things, a paranoia directed towards water and other liquids. I have on occasion joked with airport staff around the world about how dangerous water is!

Seriously? You stopped flying with SIA because of the crash?

Lets try and keep OT but I find it interesting that "some nasty accidents" becomes "a crash", and the answer is yes, the last aircraft I flew on was the same one involved in the TPE accident (9V-SPK in the special paint scheme) coincidently.

After the complaint, I've received the response from Jetstar. They are saying that they can't deliver duty free item to the gate before boarding, because they don't have enough staff being a low cost carrier. But my understanding is that the job of bringing a duty free liquor to the gate done by The Duty Free Shop employees.

I wonder why people continue to use this joke of an airline. They are full of excuses.
