The profit bit seems to be always connected to foreign exchange or leasing. Jetstar Asia was profitable in a few years for those reasons also. The current FY it was his noted as the Japan business is ‘on track’ to be profitable for this FY.
If anything perhaps JAL would take full control, possibly rebrand, which becomes an easy exit for Jetstar group. I recall they have another long haul low cost unit also.
Considering the profitability of the QF group they can probably hold it for time being, when the going gets tough however, remains to be seen.
