The lounge isn't worth spending time in instead of enjoying Tokyo. It's old and dark, but comfortable enough for an hour or so before the flight. Take advantage of being in Tokyo.

Hi,

I'm about to try JAL F for first time NRT-SYD. Excited.

I have time to spare that day-when does check in open? I want to get in early ASAP and enjoy the lounge.

Thx in advance.

Check-in opens at 7am but I wouldn't get there that early ;)

Not sure which lounge you are referring to but JL F lounge doesn't feel old nor is it dark. It's a comfortable and civilised space to spend couple of hours before the flight, enjoying freshly made sushi by the chef, selection of sake and local whiskey, shower, massage in the spa, massage chairs, shoe shine etc.

What a shame the 777 finishes in March and the 787 is introduced meaning an end to F on this sector. I do have an AA points flight in April which means a drop to J.

Does anyone know if AA would re credit me miles or do i just kiss them good bye??

If this is just a SYD-TYO (o/w or return) you'll be credited with the difference between first and business class.

If this is part of a longer series of flights with First class still operating on all other sectors you'll need to call and see how they handle the refund, if any (because award flights are charged at the highest cabin on the one way trip).

Thanks MEL_Traveller. Was a one way redemption so all good. I do love F on JAL though. Service is just fantastic.

It's a sad loss to Australian frequent flyers. JL F is an absolutely brilliant product, second only to EY apartments.

Glad I got to try this, 3 of us in an otherwise empty cabin, service was indeed superb. One seat to eat in, one to have a snooze.

What's the overall impression of the Omakase Sushi served in the JAL lounge? I'm not a hardcore Sushi snob but having eaten at Kyubey & Yoshi take in Ginza, I know what Good stuff tastes like.

It's obviously not anywhere close to being in the same ballpark. I was there on Sunday night and didn't bother.

I wouldn't expect it to be anywhere Close to the places I mentioned, but I'll happily eat at cheap places too. Is the stuff in the JAL lounge better than what's on offer in NRT foodcourt?

Obviously not at that level but good enough fresh made-to-order sushi. You can even use chopsticks and no one will tell you off ;)
