The only time I could find to try this with a GUM routing was while I was already at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong and flying CX J #firstworldproblems

I would agree with this. I do not speak Japanese, have quite a thick accent and found it difficult to get some things across.
No trouble getting my Salon refills though

No but your communication skills are top notch !! Subtle difference I've found.

Ahoy Mateys from aboard JAL 771 SYD-NRT (inflight wifi) at some distance above sea level. Just passed Butterfly Island (north of Guinea), much to the amazement of the crew and entire First cabin  Maybe we're spoilt with the views flying in and out of CNS.

Crew has been great, and the Salon has made my rarified list of 'champers I'd drink'. The traditional Japanese meal was nice, a few different tastes and smells in there.

I'm very envious of all you that have got to try F on this route. If it were not for the week-long trip to HKG I have next week, I'd definitely have organised myself for a spin as well!

The daytime flight from SYD to NRT (this past January) in F was one of the best flights I've ever had. Coming back was also great, but I wasted some of the time sleeping.

Would definitely like to give this a go. Will need to start planning how .....

Reward availability for some of the days I've been watching has dried up over the past few days, so I'd advise getting in as soon as possible, notwithstanding the JAL disclaimer that it's not yet finalised.

How is the western food on JL F?
Do they have a decent selection of movies/entertainment on their IFE ?

Hard product and service from all the pictures I've seen and reviews I've read seem phenomenal, just unsure on the above two points.

Thanks

How do you book using points ?
On the QF website or must you book over the phone ?

No idea about the IFE.

The Western menu was magnificent, including a pot-au-feu dish with truffles that's the best thing I've eaten in the sky. They've done a lot of research to ensure a choice of dishes that taste good even at altitude, and the attention to detail presentation-wise is second to none. (Here I'm comparing with F on EY, EK, QF, CX, SQ, and NH, with only the latter truly comparable in my opinion.)

Whether booking with QF or AA points, you'll need to call.

The western set menu was delicious! Dare I say it was even better then the Japanese Kaiseki and I'm a huge fan on Japanese food. Anyway, both options are very good and once you have a Michelin star chef in charge of you know you are in good hands :)
IFE is fantastic, all the latest movies plus free wi-fi (available three hours after departure).
Can't recommend JL F enough, if you have the opportunity just book it!

Put on hold tonight CTS -NRT-SYD-MEL. 60k miles. All looked good so will confirm tomorrow night.

Just booked SYD-NRT JAL F for Valentines day next year for 228k QFF points plus $340 taxes for the two of us!

What a bargain!

So glad you posted today. I had US miles redemption for for F LAX-NRT and J NRT - SYD. Just upgraded the NRT - SYD leg to F on 17/2.

Has anyone done this flight in F recently? I'm flying out next week and I'm trying to determine a couple of things:

- Out of Sydney would the Western menu be a better option than the Japanese option, given that Sydney catering is probably more likely to do well with Western food and ingredients
- How much Salon are they stocking at the moment? They just changed their 2nd option from Taittinger CdC to a much cheaper Henriot Rose. I'm hoping I will get at least a few glasses of Salon!

Currently loading is at 5/8 where it hopefully stays!

Flew a few weeks ago, can't answer how much Salon they're stocking but the good news is they didn't run out on my flight at 4/8.
Western menu is much better out of Sydney, the wagyu was probably the best steak I've ever had on a plane. Do it!! ;-)

Hi,

I'm about to try JAL F for first time NRT-SYD. Excited.

I have time to spare that day-when does check in open? I want to get in early ASAP and enjoy the lounge.

Thx in advance.
