Good evening,
We’ll be honeymooning in Hawaii, and as loyal VA platinum passengers we’re codesharing on VA-issued, HA-operated, flights.
J class.
Hawaiian is being incommunicado about the subject of vegetarian meals for my fiancée, so I approached VA to request them on my behalf.
A conscientious VA rep informs me that Hawaiian "won’t be able to accommodate this request and I am unable to take this any further.”
This was communicated apologetically (by a kind and thoughtful VA associate who mentioned she is vegetarian, by chance).
I reckon this is a bit lousy.
Hawaiian’s website says:
Hawaiian Airlines offers Vegetarian meals on select International flights upon request. Requests must be made at least 48 hours prior to departure. You are welcome to bring your own meals on board if our complimentary meals do not meet your dietary needs.
But apparently the “select International flights” don’t include Sydney-HNL or return.
For economy class dining, their position seems to be that meals are “complimentary” and if you need something special, bring it.
But in first class (ha!) they make pretences to serving decent food as part of the product… and I’ve never come across an international J-class product that wouldn’t take a special meal request as basic and commonplace as vegetarian.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks for your advice.
Regards,
SBD
