I know a lot of posters here have an IPOD etc, BigW are selling the $20 iTunes cards for 50% off this weekend, which makes a good stocking stuffer! Apparently there is a limit of 5 per person however the Big W I went to mentioned someone bought 100! Hardly frequent flyer stuff but it might be handy when your on that Dash 8 or 717 with no AVOD/IFE.

Buy some, keep them till late Jan/early Feb and put them up on Ebay.

At the moment, the Australian ones are selling for around 70-90% of face value. Plenty of people go through them, and the price will drop a little in the next week and after Christmas (ones bought in this sale, plus unwanted/excess Christmas presents), but the value will return.

All this does depend on them not being on similar sales again until after you dispose of yours.

I shall be at Robina tomorrow with my sister picking up at least 10 of them (5 each). Thanks for the tip, it’s really useful!

Worked like a charm - $100 worth of iTunes for $50! Thanks for the heads up markis10.

No advertising in Big W, but scanned with the right price.

(Shows the wonder of the internet. Sat here reading this in China, gave SWMBO the instructions, who toddles off to the shops this morning. Cheap christmas prezzies all round!)

There has been lots of bad reports about this on Whirlpool..

many stores reporting "out of stock", problems activating them, many reporting 'already used' etc

Just be careful..

My nearest store was completely out of stock. Thought about buying a $20 “receipt” at the checkout instead of a physical card, but reckoned the deal was only for the cards.

Loads of people mulling around looking for cards, picking up $30 and $50 cards and thinking about what to do.

If Big W has run out, go to Officeworks and ask for a price match.

I just visited the Big W at Top Ryde in Sydney, they had plenty of cards. I bought 20 cards at $10 each. $400 worth of I-tunes for $200.

Great catch thanks heaps to Markis 10 you have made my day!!!

Just got back from Big W Southland (Melbourne) and managed to buy 5, with only 1 left in stock. I asked about the print-out vouchers and was told that they had had the ability to issue those removed and once those cards were gone, they were gone.

Went to JB downstairs but they would not price match. Drove back up the Nepean to Officeworks. Managed to buy another 10 with the price match and 5% further off (print-out ePay vouchers, not the physical gift-cards).

Net result: 15 cards, $300 Value for $145. There's Christmas for my Nephew and Parents done, with a heap left over for me and possible sale on eBay after Christmas if I need to.

Also, they had 8Gb iPod Touches for $217 instead of the Apple Store price of $268. My parents are going to have a very musical Christmas this year:)

I did exactly what you thought of doing as all of the physical cards were gone at BigW Macquarie Pk - no problems with 3x$20 (individual transactions) for $30.

Why is it I always miss these posts until 5pm on a Sunday afternoon?? Not to worry, will keep an eye out for next time.

Great work to those who managed to get them.

I went to my local Big W and they had run out of cards. The guy at the desk said to get vouchers when i went through the check out. Went to the self service, punched in 4 x iTunes vouchers and got 4 printed on the receipt for 50% off.. nice!

That’s what I assumed would happen, otherwise they’d have lost so much money, surely.

Bugger! Oh well, the TomTom iPhone app will just have to cost full price for Christmas.

I just managed to get 20. One of my friends also got 15 today!

My friend's were activated properly, ie the number on the card on back was activated, so u scratch the card and reveal the number.

Then I had cards, but they weren't activated, I got the print outs, and also the cards, so the cards are kind of pointless, but still can staple the receipt print out to it and then use them.

Last time I bought them the cards were cardboard and you just put the receipt inside it (had a fold away pouch).

Not a bad deal :)

So, $200 - 30 = 170 points + 250 AMEX = 420 QFF points :D

Methinks this promotion will have cost BIG W some serious money today.

I mean they've got to be selling these cards at a loss, AND giving MR/QFF points on top....

In 3 years or so, I have never seen such a sale. Normally 25% - 40% off, not 50% off .... so very good buy!

I can’t imagine there’s any margin on them at all, as Apple sells everything for the same inflated price. So they’ve at least lost half on every purchase of those cards.

I download everything off the net for free so have no use for iTunes

Be careful, the RIAA and ARIA will be watching and collecting your details now! :p

You lucky sod. I managed to get 10 of the cards on Sunday. But there was issues from the Saturday with them not activating properly. So they would only put the tranactions through 3 cards at a time, i.e. $30 per transaction = no points. they also didn't want to do this using credit card, so I missed out again.

The bit of information I did get was that itunes and BigW people had been up all night Saturday trying to fix the issue with activation. I would guess that this was a promo supported by Apple and as such BigW would not have lost money.

My reason for saying this is: The stock for the promo was limited. There is now a big heap of itunes credit out there that is going to get spent, hence benefiting the App developers. This will encourage more apps and also encourage more sales. (hopefully)
Apple keep 30% of revenue, so they are only down $4 per card sold, which goes to the App developer. They probably think this is a good marketing investment
