Is Qantas Club worthwhile for Jetstar 2am departures ?

Hi,

I have just been shafted by Qantas Club regulations on access to their Singapore Lounge. (though my flight has not happened yet, and I will push for a refund)

It is probably common knowledge to all and sundry, that Qantas state that "the next connecting flight must be on the same day" to gain access to the lounge.

I arrive Singapore from Brisbane at 4.05pm, and wait 10 hours for the connection with Jetstar to Manila. Normally this would not be a problem, except that Jetstar/Qantas decide that it is a "Next" day departure...it departs at 2am in the morning, just 2 hours after midnight. The lounge closes at 11 or 11:30pm, so that would be really fine to get out and into the Jetstar queue. I will not be allowed into the lounge because of the stupid same day rule.

This is a single issue ticket, with best time available flights from Brisbane to Manila. Qantas recently Cancelled the very popular Brisbane - Manila direct flights, and this is my re-issued ticket as a result of their cancellation.

I get issued 2 club invitations per year for using Qantas Credit Card, and booking and paying with this card. Before they shut down services, it was easy to get access to lounge in Brisbane, and then lounge in Manila on the return.

Now I get a broken trip, denied access, and treated a bit like a broken scoot - er

I think I should PM the red roo to see what she can do to fix this before she loses too many more Qantas customers. ??

ps.......I have tried searching this board for similar problems, but they all seem to date back to 2007-2009 circa.

cheers and

I don't think your topic relates to the question you are posting about?

Reality is the OP is trying to use the SIN QP as an Arrivals Lounge, before going airside in Singapore to check-in for his flight to Manilla

I think the real issue is definition of same day. Obviously the need a definition somewhere and Qantas has decided same day is midnight.
Agree that for a 2am flight it seems unfair, but what if the OP was booked on a 6am or the 4pm.

Reality is for a normal person arriving at SIN airport for the 2am Jetstar flight they will arrive at checkin at 11pm and thus the QP will be closed.

In any event the OP seems to only have two passes that can be used in Brisbane (on the outbound), Manilla (potentially) and Singapore (on the way back)

---

Am actually surprised that QF hasn't slightly shifted the flight times given 3K765 departs SIN at 4.30pm everyday, just too short for the OP, with the next flight being the aforementioned 2/2.15am 3K763/767

If it's a single booking, then QF should be checking bags all the way through to MNL upon checkin at BNE I would expect.

Yes technically it's not a same day connection, but you would hope the lounge dragon would be a bit of angelic sense and allow entry.

What if the Connecting flight arrived at 10pm would QF allow access???

The way I see it is if you don't have status, thus you're using a lounge pass for access, so long as you can check-in for the flight the next day, you should be given access. However I haven't travelled the route, and don't know the specifics, but it sounds like this was more an attempt at arrivals access (which is a benefit to Platinum tier and above), so it shouldn't be allowed.

Regardless, had I been re-routed as the OP had, I'd have sent a nice letter to Red Roo at time of change outlining the reason for taking the flight, such as loyalty to QF, lounge access in BNE, and highlighting what was bound to happen, no access in SIN, and asked nicely for special consideration. I think that would be fair.

In that case, according to the rules, if you're arriving into DXB on QF9 at 11.25pm, and continuing on to London at 1.20am, you'll have to wait until 12.01am before you can enter the lounge.

Assuming you have lounge access/a pass, and check-in opens 3 hours prior to departure, I think this would be fine.

I was in DXB back in July, waiting for an EK flight to SIN departing at around 3:30 am, checked in 4 hrs before departure, and had no problem getting in the J lounge with QP around 11 pm.

Can I suggest lounge access is something of a red herring, given you will still be three hours short of departure when they kick you out. I would be booking a transit hotel room, trying for lounge access on arrival and if no, grab a bite at the staff canteen or any other outlet then checkin for a six hour block from 7PM, which will be close to normal bed time anyway.

The OP does not need to go out and check-in again. They can use the transfer desk to get boarding pass for new flight and also transfer luggage.

What I find peculiar is they should be entitled to lounge access even though flight is at 2:00am as it is booked on a single ticket and the key point is this routing was offered by Qantas as the original booking had direct flight BNE-MNL which has since been cancelled.

The rules do state same day travel but 2:00am is neither here not there. Totally different story if onward connection was 6:00am or 4:00pm the next day.

I would expect Qantas should allow lounge access in Singapore considering they are the ones that have inconvenienced the OP with their cancellation.

I am with Markis10 on this one. Why would you want to spend possibly 6 hours in a lounge, then get kicked out and spend another 2 hours hanging around waiting to board your Jetstar flight. Transit hotel or a bit of sightseeing in Singapore seems preferable.

I guess its simply that I don't want to check in and out of Ambassador hotel (again). I find that a snatched 6 hour transit hotel winds me up more than it winds me down. I don't want to see the city of Singapore again. I still don't like the city, it is just a a a a a ah

The lounge access would be from about 5pm till 11pm. Showered, catch up on news and perhaps a little daydreaming or napping. Peace and Relaxation. A decent meal or snack with a drink before Manila would be just the ticket for me.

The 2 hours allocated for Jetstar after that time is hardly "hanging around" as you seem to think. It is a task in itself to clear customs. get my "lost luggage" and then join the queue for the jetstar experience. This will take at least one of the 2 hours you suggest is idle or "hanging around"

Anyway guys and gals, thanks for all feedback,

I suggest this thread be closed for lack of interest or care. I guess I don't really care.....fussing over a few miserable wasted hours (what was I thinking?)

cheers

You don't need to clear customs and get your lost luggage, as posted up thread you go to the transfer desk and they will arrange for it to be put on your flight and issue boarding passes, you may wish to reread the thread, as for peace and relaxation, clearly you have not been to the lounge after 5PM singapore time.

would there a be a problem if the OP had their 3K boarding pass in hand along with the lounge invite? i dont think there's really a 12 midnight cut off is there (its just next flight within a reasonable timeframe...)

if all else fails I'd just head off to the skyview lounge and try my luck or use priority pass...

Why would Skyview grant access to a 3K passenger?

You don't need to clear customs. Use the transfer desk.

Have you sent PM to Red Roo? I think you should be entitled to lounge access as you have been stuffed around by Qantas.

I've been in this situation too. But my next flight was ca 7:30AM. For me it was to relax in the lounge, have some dinner and a few drinks and then go to the transit hotel for 6 hours or so sleep.

But perhaps some pax just want an arrival shower and to freshen up for their wait and for their next flight?

I think if it's a legal connection then lounge access should be allowed if the lounge is open. A same day departure restriction is ridiculous, especially for airports where many flights depart in the early AM hours.

It should be "same day or connecting flight".

Yes, it's still a problem. I had mine with me. And while I know Skyview is the designated Jetstar lounge, I don't think they'd be accommodating unless your were in Jetstar Business with lounge access. I've used my Priority Pass there flying 3K and that was fine.

And the last hour or two of the QF SIN lounge usually is rather quiet. I been there at closing a few times now.
