Is it just me - or does everything seem to be changing for the worse?

So - there have been no end of complaints about the virgin website over the last few weeks - and it seems that up until the Sabre change over, I was a totally satisfied customer - but for my flights next week, I think I will be deferring to Qantas.

Today's gem was the following - I went to check in online for my flight to Canberra tomorrow am - to find I wasn't able to. When I called up - they said it was because over 75% of the passengers were checked in online - so I have to check in at the airport. What's this all about?!! Why would that be?? I asked if I was guaranteed a seat on the flight and the guy on the phone said I was - but couldn't explain why I can't check in on line.

Is this a new policy, or just something I have never encountered before. Or am I being spun some complete and utter rubbish by the call centre??

There are numerous threads about VA/Velocity and their Sabre problems - if you follow this link:

Virgin Australia Velocity

you will see them in the Velocity section of open discussions (sorted by most recent posts). If you have time to read some/all of them you will get the gist of what has been going on.

That has been there pre-sabre.

Has it?

I must admit, I usually only check in at the airport, but recently they had a promo to check-in on the phone I think and I've not really had any problems.....well not like that anyway.

Sabre does now allow check in 48 hours before the flight. With the usual caveat emptor that checking in severely limits your ability to change fares.

Actually I confess I had a great experience today, was able to get into Row 3 (note I am Gold not Plat status), warmly greeted at the front of the bus by name and service on the flight was excellent.

flight experience has been very hit and miss the past few months iv found. more misses than hits unfortunately

I've had this before, but it was for a flight that seemed closer to capacity than 75%. (Freaked me out because I was checking in from the taxi while running late, but got on board fine.)

Flights lately have all been good. Lots of excellent service.

I think a big issue with complaints here is that people here are used to the benefits of the old, and resistant to the new. There's a lot of bad, but also a lot of good.
