Is anyone here good at identifying an aircraft type from looking at photos of major components?

Bit of a mystery - plane crashed into the water in the late 1950's on the other side of the world - unknown if commercial or military but more likely to be military. Wreck has broken up when it hit the water but there are some pretty clear photos of the underside of a reasonably large wing. If anyone is knowledgeable of aircraft from that period could you please send me a PM.

Lots of sharp eyes there ; it's a private group but you can apply to join or send me the pic and I can post it for you

OK - I will PM the pics to you but please ask them to be discreet.

Happy to ask but the group has 12.5k members so 100% discretion unlikely especially if it is..er… sensitive
I will have a look at the pics and maybe ask for some private help among the members..

Hey mate, happy to have a crack at it personally as well if you send me a PM.

Hopefully RSD will respond but the "velly intellesting" mystery has been solved...

As @tgh mentioned - the aircraft type has been determined - unfortunately that ruled this wreck out as being not the one that they are seeking. A little more information has come to light now which has revealed a bit more about the story behind the story and explains the secrecy behind story - lets just say that a military plane from a major power crashed into the water where it shouldn't have been. Why it crashed and why it was there is still unknown - but the new information corroborates the eye witness accounts, and the new information also enables a pretty good guess to be made as to the model of plane that they are now still looking for...
