iPhone / iPod Touch applications?

So, I've been thinking that there are probably a few AFF members with iPhones and iPod Touches - what applications do people use regularly? What are the best ones? Bonus points if they're in some way travel related

For me:

tramTracker - makes it very easy to find where the nearest tram stop is (uses GPS), what trams operate from that stop and when the next few are coming (calculated in real time rather than what the timetable says). Simple but really handy.

Flight Update - probably the nicest flight tracking app ever. Organise by trip, enter in your flights and it keeps track of whether they're running as scheduled, delayed, cancelled etc. Some of the features are pretty US-centric (the maps don't work with local flights), but otherwise pretty good. One feature I'd like to see added is the ability to sync flights in to the iPhone calendar.

Peggle - the most addictive game for the iPhone, period. Not exactly what you'd call a travel app, but it's an excellent way to while away the time on an otherwise boring flight. Chews through the battery, though - probably one to save for the flights where USB power is available

Why should I get an iPhone rather than say a Samsung F480T :?:

OP... Apps on my iPhone.. none travel related, but...

Shazam - Tag a song that you are listening to, to find out the Song Title and Artist.

iHandy Level - a carpenters tool, in your iPhone... it's amazing how useful this App is!!!

XE Currency - a nifty little currency exchange program (guess that is good for travel)

Facebook and eBay... love being able to track My eBay on my phone... sell, buy, reply to messages from Buyers/Sellers...

And heaps of games to entertain my 4 year old when he's bored!!!

Another vote for TramTracker here - it's invaluable! Metlink is also useful.

I find IceTV also great - an Australia free to air TV guide.

Pocket Weather AU - a weather app that uses Bureau of Meteorology data.

Comsec and ANZ's web apps are fantastic, if you use either of those companies.

Another app I just got is ToDo. It's a todo list that syncs with your pc or mac in my case.

Mvjs, I use icetv too... Very handy...

I all so have food additives that lists food additives and all of the effects they can have. It's amazing what is in the food we eat.

I don't have any apps useful to travel, but have some good games related to travel.

Facebook - I don't use the app that much, as I usually use log on through Safari on my mac instead. Shaking the app makes it update.

Skype - They recently added support to send text messages using your Skype Credit. Haven't done it yet, but should be useful.

Twitterrific - Everyone that uses Twitter probably uses a different app to get and send updates. I use the free version that's ad-supported. No worries to me.

FlightControl - A great game where you land flights on 2 runways according to the planes colours and helicopters on a helipad, while making sure their paths don't cross, and thus crash. It's been the top paid app for a while.

Koi Pond - This has been one of the biggest sellers for a long time. It's created a koi pond on your screen, running your finger along the surface of which creates ripples. Shaking the iPhone drops food into the water that the koi eat.

Paper Toss - This was the top free app in the store today. It looked interesting, has good ratings and is actually very addictive and a whole lot of fun.

Sol Free - I like playing solitaire, so downloaded this free, ad-supported, app a few months ago. It has a few card games and is quite reasonable with regular updates.

X-Plane - One of the best flight simulators for both mac and PC, and also o the iPhone. There are a number of versions now, I got the first version to be released. It makes good use of the accelerometer. You can also download X-Plane REMOTE now that lets you use your iPhone as a joystick for the desktop version of X-Plane.

I think Tramtracker is great. I just hope that with the new tram operators it isn't stuffed up.

I wish there was something like this for Melbourne (and every other city as well) trains and buses as well, it would save soooo much time.

Have you seen the Metlink app? It's not real time like tramTracker but it's still fine.

Yeah I use it, but it is the real time Tram tracking that makes Tram Tracker so good (and I assumes makes managing the Tram system much more efficient). If it is possible for Trams to be tracked real time and that information to be ported then surely the same is possible for trains and buses.

Completely agree... just upgraded to the 3Gs and gave my 3G to my Hubby... win win for both of us!!!

I wouldn't worry. Worst case scenario you have to go to the Robina Apple Store where they swap it over for a new one on the spot.

I think all the best ones have been mentioned.

Currently addicted to Facebook and Fuzzle(its a game ask Straitmans wife about that it she showed it too me) and Shazam its handy for when a song is on the radio and you don't know the song name.

Not on the 3Gs, but yes initially on the 3G... but after a couple of weeks, before I got to go back and swap it... it stopped... I wonder if it may have been the case I had on it...

Be careful of the type of case you put on it... My hubby bought me a cheap case on eBay and in hindsight I don't think it was properly designed... (you get what you pay for!!!) and the proximity sensor (which makes the touch screen turn off when you put it to your face and turn on again when you take it away) started working in reverse...

Thanks Bundy Bear - hey Shazam is also handy if you go to a Trivia Night and they play an audio "name that song" question... cheat, me? Never!!!

I also love my crossword app and monopoly on slow train days.

We are just waiting for 3 to release the iPhone (17 July) so mrssimongr can upgrade and then I will get one for the hell of it

A couple of other ones:

AIM or BeeJiveIM - keeps you logged into your chat accounts all the time. Push notifications give you an alert like a text message when someone chats with you.

Air Sharing - allows you to store and view documents, movies, images, pdfs etc.

BA Flights - good app for schedules. Also allows you to check in online.

Currency - nice simple exchange rate utility.

FlightTrack Pro - track all flight status with TripIt integration. This is great for flights but doesn't do hotels etc. Maybe better options now.

London Underground 09 - tube status & planner. Interface is a little tricky but works well and suggested routes are reasonably good.

NetNewsWire - efficient method of viewing newsfeeds on the go which syncs read status back to your desktop.

Pocket weather AU - great local weather app with accurate data from the BOM website.

Skype - works great for outbound calls but doesn't have notifications yet so you need to be running the app to get an inbound call.

Snatch - turns your iphone into a mouse trackpad for you mac. Great for remote controlling media centres and presentations.

tvGuide - ok tv schedules for Australia, NZ and UK. Content is good but it's a little slow to load up.

WeePhone SIP - a bit like skype but works with SIP protocal used by voip providers. One of few allowing you to enter any SIP server. Works great with your own Asterisk, Trixbox etc.

Wunder Radio - stream radio stations from all over the world.

Technical work Stuff, all good for emergencies - Jaadu VNC, TouchTermPro SSH, Network Ping Lite

Games - Scrabble, Monopoly, Trivial Persuit, Apple's Texas Hold'em, Uno, Ferrari GT:Evolution, Sudoku (Free), Zoo Sounds (great for diverting toddlers' attention)
