iPhone / iPod Touch applications?

I'm also trying an organiser app reQall. Speak you agenda items into the app and they does voice recognition and files your info to your organiser:

"Ring Mike on Thursday" - Adds to your Diary and my Google Calendar on Thursday.

"At Office pick up tax folder" - Uses GPS to remind you to do this when you are at office.

"Buy Milk" etc etc

Sends a daily memory jogger of upcoming events, items and reminders for the day.

Seems quite powerful, I'm still getting the hang of it.

Alby.

Hmmm, now that I have (finally) made the jump across from Nokia to Apple 3G (with enormous help from straitman and jaksmum), I'll have to start looking at all of this stuff. There is still so much to do (emails, games, etc etc) to make it really work for me.

But slowly, slowly for me...don't want information overload

They are still working on me to get an iPhone. Convenient excuse at the moment is they are out of stock but that won't last for long :!:

Hmmm... I'm pondering: BB vs Iphone... ?

iPhone without a doubt - but most of my usage is personal.
I've tried really hard to like the Blackberry phones and I just can't. Not user friendly, annoying keyboard (yes really), cough applications, cough web browsing, not very Mac-friendly in terms of syncing.

I am not sure I'd get used to the Iphone's touchscreen keypad if i get one. Other than that the iphone does look v attractive. Then again the functions that I really want are web browsing and emails - not the dozens of applications that people stick on iphones. I'm sure, though, that I'll change my mind if i do actually get an iphone and find fun things to do with it. :p (just like ages ago when i vowed that i wouldn't get a facebook or myspace account  - at least I'm still 50% sticking to that ;))

I thought that but it's surprisingly easy to get the hang of it. Even a ham fisted so and so like me can type just as quickly as on my old BB Pearl.

The auto correct facility is a great feature and just allows you to continue without having to pause, check and correct.

Been using it for over a year now and wouldn't swap back for a fee free 18 month contract!

I also think that the iPhone is easier to integrate to home email

Also very easy for our business email to integrate. We use the suite of Google enterprise products. The iphone stays in synce with my corporate email. I would say I am probably 1-2 hours per day ahead of pre-iphone days.

And the BB is easier to integrate to corporate email :p

Well iPhone's can integrate well to Exchange now!

It gets a little tricky when you're driving, but I've successfully typed out an SMS on the motorway.

Welcome to AFF Jonobigblind! :D And thanks for the assurance. Now to see if Floptus will upgrade my current contract...

It sure will - it eats the battery up a bit (no big surprises there), but it works well.

Apple - iPhone - iPhone in Business

I moved from a Bold to a 3GS last week. Use Exchange and was skeptical - but after talking to some others about it I made the move.

One downside is that Replies/Forwards from iPhone do not show up with the little arrow icon in your Outlook indicating the message was replied to or forwarded on.

I find that I am so much more productive with the iPhone on the go that today I took the sensible step and actually caught the train from Brisbane Roma St to Gold Coast & return. This was so that when I was on the go I would be sitting safely on the train using the iPhone instead of fighting the temptation to tap out a message.

My theory goes like this

60 minute car drive in which I can only make phone calls arriving 10 minutes earlier than train

or

70 minute train ride in which I can make calls, type, read journals, arrive 10 minutes later but having done an hours work....something for nothing...took early mark this afternoon.

Another option for you might be tethering your laptop to your iPhone to use the internet connection to be even more productive.

Yep, onto that one.

I have noticed that it isn't very reliable when I'm mobile. I was a passenger in a car the other day trying to use the laptop and it was flakey. Tried it again in a taxi later in the week - same thing, too flakey when mobile. When I use tethering in a coffee shop it is good.

I find there are frequent drop outs on the train as it goes through certain areas.

What carrier are you on?

Telstra's network is so much better than Optus', Vodafone's or 3's.

If you have any troubles with coverage, switch to Telstra. You'll never have a dropout again :)

Optus = Floptus; well that's is what I have heard anyway but we use Telstra for work as it's so much better coverage wise.

I do use Optus, but I'm on prepaid because I don't use anywhere near what I'd pay for a plan, and it's a very good deal, so I'd be loathe to change to something that'll gouge me just for better coverage... on the rare occasion I'm on a train! :p

Regarding the new TomTom applications, discussed here, I'm unsure if I really want my phone to be my GPS, as I already attempt to SMS and call people on it as I drive, all the while playing music through my cars speakers. Is a 4th distraction really necessary?

I'll wait for the car adaptor kit anyway and then price it up, seeing as I'll definitely need it charging if I want to use it as an in-car navigation system.
