So much for ordering online.

I ordered with T Business right when orders opened on Friday, and have just been advised this afternoon that I should try my luck in stores instead.

If I knew that I would have picked one up last weekend!

Been playing with the new 4S today. Quite a step up from my old 3GS. Siri is great but the voice dictation for SMS and emails is even better.

That is Siri isn't it?

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app

Not really. Siri is when you hold down the home button and you can ask a question and she will try and find you an answer "and yes you can say send an SMS to Dave saying blah"

But I'm talking about the little microphone icon next to the text entry box on the message app that lets you speak your message and have it converted to text. Same technology, but not technically Siri.

Still trying to work out what to do here - have decided to wait until next week when I'm back in the country, and have also decided to port to the Big T ... but do I go to a store or sign up over the phone? My primary concern is who's going to offer me a decent sign on bonus.. any ideas? :D

So, I ended up calling Telstra directly after my local Telstra store couldn't be bothered to help me (seriously - waiting for 5+ minutes to not have anyone acknowledge my presence and perhaps ask me if I want to buy something..?) and placed an order for an iPhone 4S 32GB.. complete with a $200 welcome credit. Happy. :D

So, I now have my 64GB Black iPhone 4S after trying five stores in a 2 block radius in the Sydney CBD:

- Attempt #1: Telstra store #1, 400 George Street
Arrived 30 minutes prior to closing. Told that yes they had stock, but to go away and come back tomorrow unless I wanted to buy it outright. I stormed out.

- Attempt #2: JB Hi Fi #1, Pitt Street (Strand Arcade)
Only 16GB in stock. Not what I wanted.

- Attempt #3: JB Hi Fi #2, Westfield Sydney level 6
Told all models in stock, but when she went to get one they had all been set aside :(

- Attempt #4: Telstra Pitt Street
Plenty of 16GB and 32GB models, but the 64GBs had been set aside. The chap was very helpful though and looked up what surrounding stores had stock before sending me off with directions.

- Attempt #5: Telstra Westfield - Level 6.
I was sent here after the previous Telstra store advised that this store had at least 5x 64GBs in stock. After a ~20 minute wait I handed over my ID and after signing some paperwork I was sent on my way with my shiny new phone.

As it turned out, this store has (or had as of 8pm) all sizes available in both black and white.

Now to email my Telstra Business contact and cancel my order there. Perhaps I can get Siri to do it via dictation :)

On a related note - this phone is blazingly fast compared to my previous iPhone 4 32GB.

I have many outstanding orders for 64gb I phone 4S's.

At them moment 64GB's are rarer than rocking horse poo.

OK - 32gb 4S arrived today - thanks optus.....

Currently "restoring" from my 3GS and re-syncing.... this may take a while......

Not sure how I feel about this micro-sim business though......

You can get cutters from eBay!

Also, my most recently purchased AT&T GoPhone sim had a normal sim popout that contained a micro-sim within.

Most mobile phone shops will either have micro sim cutters in stock to be purchased or they can be ordered in for you.

App cost from memory is app $25

Reinputting passwords is taking time for me...

Reinputting passwords is taking time for me...

To make it easier to upgrade next time, choose to use an encrypted backup (on the Summary tab in iTunes). That way, iTunes/iCloud backups will retain your email and wi-fi, etc, passwords and it makes restoring a lot easier.

Thanks for that. IT is also bizarre that I have to re-add my music again...

I am little disappointed to read about the Siri security flaw:

1. Lock your phone with a passcode
2. Hold the home button to start Siri
3. Say "call <insert phone number here>" (Note that the number does NOT need to be in your contacts list)
4. Watch as the guy who nicked your phone racks up thousands of dollars in international calls before you realise you've lost your phone and get the SIM disabled :(
