Set "Siri" to No :)

Interesting, there's a 32 page thread on whirlpool about this security hole, and nobody has suggested that solution (the only solution given so far is to turn siri off altogether). Thanks mate :)

How's everyone finding the battery life. I seem to find that if I use it the battery drains quick. I've turned heaps of the notifications off as well as a lot of the apps that want to know my location and turned down the screen brightness. But the battery seems to be the biggest disappointment

Think its to late to order iPhone 4s in OZ as I'll be is Us 5th Nov to 12th Nov, can I buy an unlocked one and a sim for use while there?.

About a day, and I don't make a lot of calls :(. Screen is on max brightness though.

Ok. Well, case and screen protector.... I'm now a happy chappy.

Have to spend some time learning the new features, but so far so good.

Siri tells me that marriage isn't part of the end user license agreement :(

If you google "iphone 4s tips" or "os5 tips" you get some cool tips on new features, like being able to use the camera from the lock screen.

I am loving the feel of the phone as well as the speed (compared to the 3GS). I certainly expect to upgrade a year early though when the next iPhone comes out - not through any disappointment with this - just I think a slimmer design would be better.

I don't find the battery an issue - I am constantly within range of a charger (or five). If however I was constantly mobile and constantly calling people I would have to find a different phone and it wouldn't be another smart phone.

The battery life is noticeably worse than my iPhone 4 unfortunately.

Today was my first full use day without having it on charge. I took it off charge around 11am at 100%, and when I put it back on just now it was at 8%

While I was listening to music most of that time as I decided to take a train to Katoomba and back, the actual "screen on" use wasn't much. I even turned off wifi and my push email at 40%.

I would typically expect my previous iPhone 4 to be at around 40% with similar usage (vs 8%).

I can't seem to figure out why that is? According to the tech specs the Standby time on the iPhone 4S is 200Hrs and on the iPhone 4 iw as 300Hrs.

How can it possibly get worse?

I'm a bit worried now to be honest. I normally dock mine overnight to charge, taking it off at 8am and return it around 11pm. It usually sits around 15% at the end of the day. It doesn't look like I'll make it through that day with the 4S. :/

I've been using mine a LOT (emails, Internet, google maps, playing with Siri etc) and it makes it through the day. I noticed mine came with Bluetooth turned on; thats something that could be turned off to reduce battery drain ( even just a little).

Battery life is also impacted by the signal strength that you have.

If your phone is in more bad coverage areas your battery life will be impacted greatly.

You can purchase a back up battery pack for I phones.

I think they are app $79 to $99 last time i saw them.

Try turning off location services for location based time updates. I found that made a huge difference.

Hopefully the battery life issues will be fixed with the next software update. But for a phone that has a supposedly better batter than it's predecessor, it is amazing that the battery life has been considerably shortened. I don't know how they came to the conclusion that it has 200 hrs standby, but in a real world scenario, that's extremely far from the truth. I guess when you turn all the radios off and don't use it, you probably can get 200 hours out it, but where's the fun in that?

6hrs since I pulled it off the charge and I'm at 42%. This phone seems to lose 1% for each minute the display is active.

Surely that cannot be right.

Gone from 42% to 40% just writing this reply...

Rebooted at the advice of a friend 10 mins ago. Battery hasn't gone down since.

Here's hoping that it was something as simple as a runaway process.

Oh, I also deleted find my friends. It popped up a user error when I rebooted the phone, and I have no intention of using it - call me if you want to know where I am! (or check foursquare)

Mines been off the charger since 6am (so 14 hours), Ive been playing around with it all day, and it still has 40%. i can see that if you use it a lot, youll need to charge every night, but if its just sitting in your bag, it would probably go 2 days.

The answer as mentioned by Ewing appears to work and solve the issue. The exact term is however: Set "Siri" to "Off" :)

Siri then functions normally when the phone is unlocked but not whilst it is locked.
