International style dining BNE to PER

I have a mid day SYD-PER followed by a red eye PER-MEL in a couple of weeks, so it will be interesting to see what is offered. Especially as I have a special meal logged.

Flew PER-SYD in J the other day and compared to a week earlier the service and meal was 100000x better. A drastic improvement.

Menu was same as whats been posted on here, I had corn chowder, beef cheeks and custard. All were very nice and that Fritatta thing they offer between drinks and meal....YUM YUM YUM

The only thing I think they could improve is offer an antipasto plate or nuts in a bowl, similar to what Air NZ offers? Have some roast capsicum, olives etc etc and some nuts in a bowl. Just a bit more professional than eating nuts out of 2 bags, would also save having to hand 2 bags or what ever out to people.

Other than that, very nice meal service and much more professional than a tray slapped on the table and quality food now as well.

Flew economy home and that was shocking, lets hope your next improvement is in that area!!

Flew Brisbane to Perth on Wednesday and then Perth to Melbourne on Friday and have to say that the service was excellent and the food even better. Well done Qantas

A couple of small improvements will see a first class service,

When setting customers in pre flight then why not ask what would you like to drink afrter take off for example, a better selection of canapes with the predinner drink

But as I say congratulations Qantas a huge step forward.

QFJ.jpgMenu from SYD-PER last week - Smoked salmon, Sausages and Panna Cotta were great. Arancini ball was offered during drinks (along with the usual nuts - but agree would be much better in a bowl). (and to top at all off priority boarding worked a treat and luggage came out # 1 and 3 with no more than a 2 minute wait... still in shock!)

Just did the PER-BNE and BNE-PER rotations this weekend. Had the new J interiors and the new J menu:

767 with Millennium seats recovered. Q Streaming and new Dining.

This is the return. Scored one of the four 767 internationals with new interior. The Dreamtime seat is excellent for this 5 1/2 flight!

Note: PTV's are now removed in J. It's got Q streaming. It's also not got the Qantas logo on the forward bulkhead. Rather it has an extra overhead TV screen. On both flights 'main screen' was being used as well as streaming. The iPads are superb but movie choices are still lacking compared to iQ.

Small plate. More perfect yoghurt and a very delicious raspberry muffin:

I ordered the muesli but here is a pic of the crepe that ChrisCunard's Mum (who I was flying with this time) had:

Both crews were superb. Exceptionally friendly and told me they enjoy giving the new service and feel fresher working in the refurbished planes so well done Qantas!

Thanks for the pics haven't managed to travel in a refurbed Dreamtime yet - hopefully soon.

Agree they need more movies on the iPads.

Shame they didn't keep a few more dreamtime planes they work well for long haul domestic and look super in the new fit out.

It's great to hear your many positive reports. As I've said before...we're happy when you're happy!

Thank you too, for your suggestions on how we can improve this relatively new aspect of our domestic service.

I'll ensure your comments are passed on to the relevant team for their reference. They'll be pleased to know the hard work is paying off. :)

I'll quickly add my thoughts as I've had the chance to do a few runs in the last fortnight on some Status runs..

SYD-PER, Dinner

(Sorry for the poor quality of the menu photo).

PER-MEL on the red-eye. I grabbed the croissant late, and it was a bit dry getting to me as some turbulence interrupted service.

(And I'm aware these aren't PER-BNE as the Thread title indicates, but thought this was as good as any area to share the photos... perhaps the Thread title could be amended...?)

And then last week...

MEL-PER Dinner

The beef was a bit disappointing: a bit too salty for my liking, and only 2 or 3 small pieces of beef in my serving.

(Note the empty wine glass and almost empty water glass... it remained like that for at least another 15 minutes... the drinks service was very slow during the meal service :().

Loved the cheese platter. The combination of the spicy nuts, pear and cheese were terrific: an explosion of flavours in your mouth, if I'm allowed to get a bit melodramatic! ;)

I had to google Croque Monsieur .
At least I know what it is now.
I really like the sound of the new menu. Thanks for posting.

I too had to google croque monsieur - and to save everyone else the trouble, it's a fried ham and cheese sandwich. Thanks for posting the new menu, very excited now as I am flying ADL - PER via MEL next week just so I could try it.

Well done Qantas.

I provided some positive feedback a couple of days ago about a flight regaridng the food and service standards and how much better it is and recieved a phone call the next day thanking me for the positive feedback.

Good to see QF is obviously taking note and it's nice to put some positive feedback in for once rather than having to complain about something even better to get recognition and not just a standard "Thank you for your feedback" emails.

I have to say, I was disappointed in this new offering on the red-eye from Perth to Melbourne overnight.

I realise this is a supper service and didn't expect much substantial, but the J menu offered tomato and oregano tartlet and chocolate mud cake. The tartlet was a single bite sized thing, and there was no chocolate cake. I then ordered the fruit salad for breakfast, and that consisted of 2 strawberries, a single piece of pineapple and a single piece of rockmelon.

I've had better food in economy on that flight before.

Thankfully I had a connecting international flight in Melbourne and could eat breakfast in the FLounge. Which was fantastic!

When they say cheese, they mean really do mean cheese, not cheeses.

I recently flew PER-ADL then home to WA ADL-MEL-PER just so I could try out the new plates menu on a longer flight. I was a little disappointed.

The cheese plate on both flights was a very hard Parmesan style: not something that you would expect to find on a cheeseboard but rather something you'd shave over a Caesar salad or some pasta. It was bland and rubbery and served with some fairly tasteless crackers, some oddly coated (sweet?) almonds and a block of Maggie Beer quince paste.

The crew on both flights seemed quite surprised that I would want a main plate and the cheese (which is curiously - given its size - listed on the menu as a main plate). As there's no desert, I didn't think it unreasonable to want an entrée (small plate), then a main (main plate) then something to finish (the cheese).

I've tried the plates menu three times now, and all I can say about it is that it is OK. The idea is great, but there is a long way left to go with execution: for example the small bowl of leaves (there are no other salad-y bits) comes with a portion control dressing sachet. On other airlines, the salad is dressed for you, or comes in its own little bowl. The main plate soup is just a larger serve of the small plate soup with some nuts or croutons added.

But that said, the plates menu is a good start, and the crew seem to genuinely enjoy serving it.

For anyone who is interested, here is the menu for my SYD-PER flight in late September:

Small Plates

Cream of Leek Soup with Thyme Croutons

Tiger Prawns with Lemon and Anchovy dressed White Bean Salad

Main Plates

Big bowl of Chicken and Leek Soup with Herbed Orzo

Smoked Salmon Salad with Potato, Egg, Aioli and Preserved Lemon

Char Siu Pork with Stir Fried Vegetables in Oyster Sauce, Hokkien Noodles

Herb CrushedLamb Cutlets with Rosemary Roasted Vegetables and Aioli

Cheese of the Day with Accompaniments

Desserts

Lemongrass and Palm Sugar Panna Cotta with Fresh Pineapple, Mint and Elderflower

Platter of Seasonal Fruit

Just looking at the menu last week and compare it to kevrosmith's menu from June, it looks like QF has now added a dessert course in its dinner menu which was greatly appreciated.

Otherwise the two menus look similar with a soup, salad and two meats served as main plates. As for my meal, it was presented nicely and more importantly tasty.
