International Red e-deal (N/O/Q) Upgrade Promotion

Didn't get the email but just put in a request from a super cheap Red E-Deal to Business for a Wellington return. Thanks again AFF!

This is just me, but on QF9 simply to SIN, I would stick with 80K. It's an afternoon/evening flight and you are not really going to try to sleep (presuming SIN is you final destination that evening).

FWIW, there's no harm in making the request in any case; then thinking about it as you can cancel outside of 24 hours.

My caveat is that I have been there and done that, both in economy and business MEL-SIN so experience is not novel.

Aside from that, if you have little experience of a Mk II Skybed or a PE seat then at least your flight would be maximised since you have the time to enjoy all facits.

Got the e-mail too.
This is about the 4th l've had this year.

But, l really like the "Normally, not all fare types allow you to register for an upgrade using your Qantas Frequent Flyer points, however for a limited time we've waived this restriction." Or until VA offer something similar and QF decide to treat customers better.

That's 40k points for a Y -> J upgrade for MEL-SIN. At the burn rate of ~80 points per minute, it does sound a little expensive for a day flight.

All very good points. But there's no chance I'll be buying anything but red-e deals for years to come, so I may as well put my hat in to the ring for the lottery :)

Hmm but then again, it is almost a third of the OW RTW ticket. Eh I'll decide later :)

That's fair enough - if you want to experience a Mk II Skybed or a PE seat then at least you'll have the time to enjoy all facets.

As I indicated, there's no harm in making the request during the promo; then cancelling (outside of 24 hours) if you change you view.

Yeah I definitely don't think it'd be worth the 25k points to go to Y+ from 80K, so didn't put that as a preference.

Will see how I feel closer to the date, and dream about that round the world trip in the meantime!

I did just that.

80000 points Y to J seems a bit harsh. Will have to think about it.

But it is SYD to DFW in row 79 at present.

Well, I requested a N to J upgrade for my flight from Singapore to Melbourne a few days ago.It is now an hour before boarding and I still have a note against my seat in the booking window, saying "Note: An upgrade to Business is requested. Status of upgrade will be shown 5 hours before departure."Guess I didnt get it then :)Ah well.BTW, does anyone else think that the business lounge at SIN needs to be larger? The lounge is always packed when I come through here.

A little bit late now, although I would've hassled the lounge dragons if I was in that situation. :) (Not that it would increase my chances, but I do like certainties...)
I think the lounge is not bad. It's pretty packed in the evenings with all the QF/BA connections, but has a reasonable number of showers and a few bits and pieces of food and beverages, which is pretty much all I would ask for in a transit lounge. It's not the best but works well enough.

Re: Points upgrades on inelligible fares

Has anyone else experienced this? (i.e. achieveing an upgrade on an inelligible ticket?)

I've experienced being able to apply for it on an ineligible fare, applying for both Y+ and J from Y, and not getting either (SYD-LAX on QF 11 in late May). I hope you have better luck! (I'm only PS and was travelling with Mrs Adelaide_Matthew too, so we were only ever a long shot.)

Can you still upgrade N/O/Q class or did the offer end for everyone on July 1st ?

There was a mention over on Flyer Talk that the ability to upgrade would be available again in a couple of weeks...not sure of the details or how correct the rumour is.

Thanks for that, haven't been on FT for ages. Just wondered as I think I requested one on 'O' class 2 days ago :)

Since July 7th, upgrades on domestic Qantas flights can be requested from any revenue fare.

Per the QFF T&C's, upgrades for International Qantas flights currently cannot be requested for bookings from the O, Q, N, X and E fare buckets.

There was a report posted on FT yesterday of an agent indicating (to paraphrase) that things may be different in two weeks time (Aug 1 - I guess).

Thanks serfty, the upgrades I have requested on 7th and 11th July for flights in Oct were LHR-HKG and HKG-MEL from Y to J. Both appear to have been lodged in the booking reference, flights are definitely O booking class, maybe there's a glitch somewhere ;)

Cancel the request and attempt to re-add it, I dare you :p

I'm not getting any such luck on an upcoming SYD-DFW-vv booking in Q:

And yes, it did offer it to me during the recent promotion but I'm happy with my seat assignment so didn't bother.
