Princess (along with most other cruise lines) charge like wounded bulls for shore excursions regardless of the day or the location.

Some friends of mine went on Crystal Symphony this year. Booked it years ahead and booked the cheapest possible cabin, and it was still expensive  But I'm pretty sure they told me that the shore excursions were free, they just had to choose which excursions they wanted to do. Is that right or is my memory playing up? (After 'one of those' travel days yesterday with a 22 hour journey that became 30+ hours due to the effects of MEL weather, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm remembering wrong. I can hardly remember my own name right now o_O)

Yes - there are cruise lines that have included shore excursions. Have booked Viking Ocean Cruise for Alaska in 2019 and there are included excursions but they seem a little basic. They also have paid excursions as well. Viking also includes proper coffee and tea throughout the day and wines included with meals. Expensive but the ships are beautiful.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

On a number of the cruise lines that include shore excursions, they open for booking at different times depending on your cabin grade, so that those who pay for a suite etc get first dibs and those in the 'cheaper seats' get what's left over. In the spirit of making money, they also as Pushka said, offer extra fee paying ones as well.
The premium lines often offer good value for money as much is included that on the mainstream lines are chargeable. That said, there is no such thing as a free lunch :)

I can now confirm that Miss D will not be able to join me, but Miss N will, and is already exited.
I hope she is excited and hasn't exited yet ;). Assume you have made the change with Princess. As long as one person from the original booking remains, it is all fine.

Just booked flight to Adelaide, must do the Melbourne one soon. Probably should do up a list soon with cabin numbers and names.
