I've been flying for some years now. My first taste of lounges and points was with Ansett when I had golden wing lounge membership and was earning points on the many intra and interstate flights i used to take for work and leisure. After they went bust, I was left with a heap of points in my account that were useless.

It took me a little while to cotton onto QF and their QFF program. I had kinda ambled along with it, not really achieving anything, until about 6 years ago when my work situation changed, and I had a rather meteoric rise (by my standards anyway!) up to WP from NB in about 6 months. Iv'e been lucky enough to either maintain WP or only drop back to SG in that time.

I now find myself with only the one flight needed next week to get back to WP and I have finally realised that yes, I AM A STATUS cough! I have been lurking on AFF for a while, reading all of the posts in things that interest me, and have found that now, I too chase the best economy in earning/burning my points and most importantly those status credits!

Why, only last night I was looking at booking a JASA from BNE-PER and was trying to work out the best SC earn routing. When I passed this onto SWMBO, I ran into the biggest brick wall in my life! My democratic household all of a sudden took on a menacing dictatorial tone. I was shocked, nay flabbergasted that SWMBO did not understand my need or desire to fly through a half dozen different ports on the way home, to earn the most SC's for my points burn! :evil:You are crazy and we will be flying home direct:evil: she was heard to say in a tone that meant business (as you may realise, she only flies once or twice a year and has no concept of the AFF life!).

I have become addicted to the pursuit of those magic little numbers! Yes, I am only a small time player on the scene, akin to the gambler playing the ten dollar tables at the casino whilst aspiring to be in the high rollers room with the big league players! But for better or worse, I'm a man who loves the chase of it all and the challenge to get those SC's to get to or keep my WP or greater, and I love it when I get a win!

Thanks to AFF and its members for all of the contributions to my SC quest!:D

Welcome to the club Eddie :)

My name is (insert name here), and it's been (insert days) since my last status run.

(applause)

Its easy to fix SWMBO goes direct you do the milk run:)

Currently I'm working out AA domestic US flights for trip in Aug., my good woman doesn't like making extra stops either, so rather than just get connecting flights we will stay over in 2 more cities and see what they have to offer as not been there before.

I did mention this to her last night however I could feel the red hot glare down the phone line 5000km's away!

The stopovers in the US are a good idea as there are some great places to visit over there. Did the driving trip in 2009 from LA-San Fran-Vegas-Denver-Kansas-(fly to Orlando-atlanta-Kansas) Memphis-Washington-Niagara-Boston-New York (plus alot of stops in between) then fly back to LAX before flying back to BNE. Would've been great for a miles run but driving it we saw great parks and attractions and lots of little towns in between.

When I was 30 (dam long time ago) snagged a car delivery across USA, was a Pontiac Firebird for a family in Chicago moving to SFO, they had a big Caddy but need someone to get the other one over, had 10 days and it cost me just the petrol. Another time hired a mustang drove from San Diego CA to SFO.

Next trip is a JASA OZ/LAX (gotta love ASA's).

Ooo me too but I've never made WP.

Good luck with SWMBO but I convinced my SWMBO by indicating that the more of my planning that she complied with, the more likely we fly J or F vs Y, we are more likely to get an upgrade and we get access to lounges etc.

She is now very tolerant and willing to comply. She has finally knuckled under my authority (if she reads that last bit, I'll probably be sleeping on the couch). :D

Good luck with your quest!

You only made one mistake! And that was discussing it with " Her indoors ". Never mind you won't make that mistake again :).

Suggesting that SWMBO goes direct while you do your own thing on a separate aircraft is akin to my suggestion to my wife that because she can't sleep in-flight on a lie flat bed anyway, she may as well travel Economy to London while I flew Business. This was not at all well received! Women are SO hard to understand!

Commonly known as damned if you do, damned if you don't! :p

[SUP]One trip last year to Mrs Lime would not let me buy her a J ticket, said " you can but I'll go in Y and spend the rest in Hong Kong" (she did), on return flightI looked around cabin there she was on the other side bumped up to J, drink in hand, waved with big smile on her face!.[/SUP]

Not only are they hard to understand, but manipulative as well, it seems!

Some might be, mine is not, lucky and smart as they come actually.

Mine too! Two Uni degrees and a graduate diploma! Runs rings around me --- I'm too far behind the eight ball to recognize whether I am being manipulated or not!

LOL This thread really made me laugh. I guess I'm a status cough too! Although in my case my DH is also my business partner and we generally travel together for work. So when it comes to SC and points and all the rest of it he is as bad as I am! In fact we have been known to spend hours of time discussing the best way to maximise earn/burn and how to save the company (ours!) money but still get to travel up the pointy end! In our house its easy to forget that not everyone talks "FF speak" its only when we start raving on to a business colleague or friend about our latest FF "win" or "bonus" and we see their eyes glaze over that I remember not everyone is as obsessed as we are!

Cheers

Timmi

Unasahamedly a status cough and damn proud to have come out of the closet LOL

I am one of the lucky ones my partner who never really understood my obsession untill...................................................... on a recent International trip she came with me and got to enjoy the pleasures of the fabulous F longe and the excellent day spa treatment and now well she helps me find the best options to maintain status and has now Finally become a QF FF member :p

With two F London trips this year she will also make Platinum.

Moral of the story take them to an F Lounge spoil them and Job Done :p:p:p

You are crazy and we will be flying home direct:evil: she was heard to say in a tone that meant business (as you may realise, she only flies once or twice a year and has no concept of the AFF life!).

As is mentioned elsewhere on this forum the trick to solving that is to get your other half into the F lounge, which reputedly often has the intended effect of turning them into true believers, or at worst tolerant of your hobby.

I took a guest into the Sydney F lounge once and she was amazed with the setting, spa treatments on offer, snacks, dining menu and drinks, all at no extra cost. Even the gourmet ice cream flavours (fig) impressed. Before we left she was already asking how we could plan the next trip to include an F lounge visit first :p

Another addict here.At first mrsdrron was ambivalent but having tasted flounges she now has no problem doing indirect routings in the US so she maintains WP status.
I realise that she has finally been converted when a week or two ago i had difficulty booking the SGS in BKK for the exact dates we wanted. Her reply-well lets do a mattress run and stay at the westin the first night!:D
