IHG Rewards - Win Big

A lurker on FT has just confirmed:

Reward Nights, Points & Cash, and Point Breaks stays do not count as stays towards the offers in this promotion.

The Big Win Promotion - Page 21 - FlyerTalk Forums

What about BOGOs? Are they classed as reward stays and if so, does 1 of the nights count? (given the stay seems to class as two nights at half rate rather than 1 night at full rate and one night free). If it's not clear, could someone ask the lurker on FT as I don't have membership there.

Good to see we don't need to cancel and rebook pre-existing booking as they will still count so effectively, we can start booking now.....I was waiting until the 1st!

At least one night should count, mostly I find they just get entered as two qual nights.

Good promotion, obviously intended to stretch travel plans. Not sure why mine has four brands, when realistically because I am in Australia, and only travel within Australia and NZ it requires me to travel to four brands. Kind of puts me off promotion when it is not realistic for me to get four, especially in the period required, but can do three without a real stretch. The promotion I am guessing is intended to increase loyalty but seems to reward an extension of travel plans. I will get some points out of it (eg survey, 13 nights for 14,000 points, 1,000 for first night), but will not get some of the big numbers like 24,000 for staying at 4 brands, win at all over the world 10,800 for staying at 2 hotels in Europe, or 9,000 for staying at a resort. Of course that means I miss out on 60,000 points, but I guess all these points should be viewed as a bonus.

Have a closer look at your offers, you have a resort down the road literally, and as already mentioned I am sure we can help with the 4 brands ;)

Thanks Markis, could go IC Sanctuary Cove, or CP Hunter Valley (less likely) so could cover that one off. The 4th brand is intriguing, I think I get how to do that, but struggling with how to execute!

My offer was:

  • Try one and done (one stay) - 1,000
  • Stay more and earn more (stay 19 nights) - 16,800
  • Explore our brands (stay at four different IHG brands) - 36,000
  • Survey the win (complete survey) - 100
  • Eat it up (spend $830 USD on food & beverage) - 6,800
  • Getaway with a win (resort stay) - 9,000
  • Win big (complete all offers) - 70,000

Total - 139,700

Attractive offer but $830 on food and bev (they must know me) :D

Does Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites count as two separate brands?

Same question for Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn plus Suites, and Holiday Inn Express?

Yes, although the HI plus suites I think is a no.

Nice idea with the badges from a concept point of view. I have my points earn to miles though, so not sure how that effect anything?. Looking at my account, I still need 32 nights to upgrade to platinum elite... Too rich for my blood I think.

Mine's even harder to achieve....

Spend $900USD on food or beverage at any IHG® hotel and receive 4,900 Points

I got mine and similar to others except my food spend is
Winning can be so decadent

Spend $380USD on food or beverage at any IHG® hotel and receive 2,000 Points

Not sure why mine is so high when other people have $56 etc.

My $56 may be attributable to minimal F&B expenditure - maybe a drink here or there and sometimes breakfast when SWMBO is in tow. (Or is that me being towed by her ...:p)

Sept - Oct 2013 Accommodation Offers

Thanks for the heads up. I noticed my email just as I was running out the door his morning. So a PP newsletter rate is not classed as a "reward" and is simply an earning paid stay?

Mine is achievable.

The only real issue is the 2 stays in Australia and the resort stay. As I have no need to stay anywhere in Australia between now and the end of the year this will look like being a waste of money to book those 3 nights. The cost of those 3 nights will be well over $600 to get ~60,000 bonus points which can be bought cheaper.

Decisions, decisions....

I would have thought Golf up the Hunter Valley would be right up your Alley, and you can get the coast down to $100 a night at present.

I could not get any availability at the Hunter Valley on the weekends I had free in November.

I did not realise the properties on the Gold Coast were that cheap. Will need to look into that idea. The resort on the Gold Coast was $279 which is way over the top.

I note Batam is on the list, perhaps you could stay with a friend and not show up ;)

Not much availability for the cheap rate at the GC. Just wish IHG still had cash backs on their properties.
