IHG Hotels that recognise status

Hotel: Crowne Plaza Perth
When: 28-29 July
Status: Platinum
Rate: IHGR ADVANCE
Booked: Queen Premium
Received: Standard Balcony River View

Arrived quite late ~1am and just keen to get to room but in hindsight, none of the usual acknowledgment of status, no welcome amenity offered (nor received so far).
Oooh, I was there two nights earlier - and agree about the weariness, not the quality IHG property I'd expected

Almost a mirror of your trip, arrived midnight, the "upgraded" room required me to haul my suitcase up some stairs, and in the morning there was mould on the ceiling near the balcony door, so not too impressed.

The welcome amenity wasn't mentioned/offered, but the 600 points were in my account before I had even departed

Will try the "Intercontinental" next time in Perth

This weekend I'm looking forward to the Kimpton Margot for a bit of a staycation! 😊

I used to stay there quite often as a Rydges and then once as the IC. Usually pretty good and not a bad location. The HI was just a block or so away.

The handy thing with the CP was there was plenty of free on street parking (6pm to 8am) opposite the hotel.

You'd reminded me with this that I almost had fond memories of the Rydges Perth, but the stay was so short lived I can barely recall it! I arrived late at night from Malaysia one time, with an overnight in town before a meeting on Hay St and then a flight to Sydney. I was young(er) and naïve and had no idea about status, so upgrades were rare. I was no doubt booked in the cheapest space our company could find... and got upgraded on arrival to what is now the Penthouse Suite at the IC. Was totally confused when I got into the room; couldn't even figure out where things were. Eventually found the bed; slept in the clothes I'd arrived in, and then in the morning I showered and left again :D

Cheers,
Matt.

Hotel: KimptonMargot Sydney
When: 12-13 August 2022
Status: Platinum
Rate: One rewards bonus 5000 points
Booked: King Bed Premium [Base rate for night for that night at the time of booking: $359]
Received: King Bed Premium with Living Area [Base rate $383]

Made use of $50 Stay NSW voucher on this booking, and triggered $75 back on Amex Offer for spending $350 or more with IHG Hotels & Resorts

Checked in at 4pm, no welcome drink amenity offered, 600 points given and credited immediately upon check-in though. No other "perks" of membership that i noticed, and of course the staff are well trained at saying "thank you for your loyalty..."

Kimpton does a "Social Hour" for guests at all properties apparently, so there was free wines [some Pinot Grigio for me] available up on the mezzanine from 5-6pm and I enjoyed a quick chat with a member of staff about the hotel's opening and history all whilst soaking up the atmosphere of the foyer.

Room 619 was oversized [sorry, no pics] with 2.5 seat sofa, Nespresso machine, and an interesting selection of mini-bar drinks and snacks. Room was quiet, comfortable, but no views from the hotel rooms to speak of - though the pool area on level 7 looks like it'll be a great place to spend a summer's day once the bar's up and running!

Expecting to have an extra 6,000 IHG One points credited in the next day or so - this was my second booking through the app; plus the 5,000 "purchased" with my stay. I'm opted to earn 452 KrisFlyer miles - not sure if I'll get any benefit of the "2x points" for my second stay for the other promotion currently running.

Nice. How did you use your voucher - just at checkin/out?

Nice. How did you use your voucher - just at checkin/out?

I just mentioned it and used it at check in, as I didn't want to forget when checking out. Was hassle free to scan like all the other vouchers on the Service NSW App. However, at check-out it hadn't been applied to the bill, and I had to have them fix it - so be careful.

Did you happen to try the current Kimpton Secret Password at check in for a local benefit, as well? The password (pass phrase, I guess) is “Stay Cool” until 5th Sep

Cheers,
Matt.

Oh! This I was not aware of - where is this to be found in future?!

I think there also used to be a promotion with NSW Stay vouchers to get a double benefit at IHG properties - but I couldn't locate an email with the details.

Well, it is a secret! 😬 It’s generally shared on their social media platforms, and the big travel blogs like to post it when they are updated, as well. See here for an example with some other detail on it from The Points Guy: Kimpton's newest secret password can help you 'stay cool' with a fun surprise at check-in - The Points Guy

The IHG NSW Stay promo ended in July, I think. I had a Voco stay mid July and I believe I’d already missed out on it even at that point.

Cheers,
Matt.

It might technically be still going to 09 Oct but the link in my email doesn’t work now and the link in this article takes you to the Vivid promo (which has expired).

I actually can’t see where you would enter promo code “TWICE AS NICE”?

Yes - still looks to be open. I recalled looking at the promo and saw I wasn’t eligible but it must have been as the property wasn’t parcitpating, not due to the date.

To get the benefit it looks like need to book their Best Flexible rate and you add the promo ‘code’ as a comment in the booking comments, like where you’d put special instructions etc. It’s not a rate access code. You wouldn’t get to this until the last stage of the booking.

Cheers,
Matt.

Holiday inn express Newcastle, convenient to the upcoming AFF Gathering #15 in NTL on 21 – 23 October 2022

Hold Diamond status which had been extended from spire through covid.

Booked base queen room, given high floor with view over the park (have stayed here a number of times, probably the nicest view I've had)

500 bonus points in account immediately on check in.

Hotel Indigo Edinburgh (York Place, not Princess St)
King Bed Standard
Rate - Stay longer pay less (7 nights)
Status - Platinum

Upgrade not available as fully booked due to festivals and the Tattoo. So i was given both the 600 point welcome amenity and two free drinks (could have beer, wine, spirits, coughtails or softdrink). Early check in given, late checkout offered but not needed.

Room was on top floor with view of cathedral. Complimentary mini bar with still and sparkling water, iron bru (scottish soda) and chocolate bars refilled daily.

Great lighting and block out curtains, spacious shower with great water pressure and perfect sized towels (bathsheets and smaller towel larger than hand towel but smaller than small bath towel perfect for wrapping wet hair). Plenty of usb and power points. Loved polished floor boards instead of icky carpet.

Included breakfast offered proseco mimosas, generous buffet of cold meats and cheese, fresh fruit (the berries were delicious, no cheap melon filler in the fruit salad), pastries, bread, cereal, juice, barista coffee and yoghurt plus a al a carte choice of Full Scottish, Pancakes, Eggs Benedict/Royal, eggs any style with bacon, bircher muesli.

Platinum member stay at Voco Gold Coast

Upgraded from a mountain view suite to a sea view suite.
Got offered 3 complimentary drinks and got the 600 points as well!
Complimentary Bottle of sparkling also provided at arrival.
No early check in - tried to contact the hotel early but declined

Hotel Indigo Glasgow
Room booked: King
Rate IHGR Advanced with Breakfast

No early check in available and no uograde offered. 600 amenity points credited immediately.

Hotel starting to show its age, bathroom could do with an update. Room bright in daylight but lighting placement poor making for very dim room at night, would not have wanted to be trying to work at the desk in evening.

Mini bar only had still water and choclate bars. Towels not as nice as in Edinburgh.

Breakfast was buffet - bacon, scrambled eggs, hash brows, sausages, toast, pancake machine, pastries, juice, fruit (mostly cheap melons, no berries)cereal and yoghurt. Coffee machine = undrinkable. No al la carte options.

Did not feel same standard as the Indigo in Edinburgh or Adelaide.

Restaurant supposedly a Marco Pierre White 9ne, but many better places to eat around town.

Voco Melbourne Central
IHG Platinum status
Booked a King Bed Standard room.
Was advised a day before checking in that I was upgraded to a King Bed Premium City View High Floor room.

At check in I was offered the choice of a drink voucher (was able to use for a gin & tonic) or bonus points.
Also proactively asked at check-in if I would like a late checkout.

The hotel is new, staff are great and the room is nice with a great view. Very happy indeed with this hotel!

Hotel: Voco Gold Coast
When: 10-15 August
Status: Platinum
Rate: Stay Longer Pay Less
Booked: Double Standarnd River View Room
Received: Double Standard Mountain View Room High Floor

Upgraded two days prior to check-in. Status acknowledged at check in, offered amenity points or complimentary drinks. Requested complimentary drinks.

Rate included buffet breakfast which was decent, my main qualm is that breakfast does not include barista coffee (which I know is quite common) the self service coffee machine brewed very poor coffee, foam was bubbly and not silky, coffee was very bitter and barely drinkable. Probably better off steering clear of the machine and taking a 5 minute stroll to Paradox Coffee Roasters.

My room on level 18 had a nice view facing West, was treated to a couple of beautful sunsets. Shower had very slow drainage. Internet was unusably slow and constantly dropped out which meant I head to tether the whole time. I wouldn't stay here again for a work trip, adequet for leisure trips I'd say.

Hotel Indigo Lower East Side NY
Booked - Queen Superior
Offered - King Suite
Rate - Stay longer pay less (5 nights)
Status - Platinum

Was offered an upgrade to King Suite at check-in if willing to wait 3 hours for room, or my booked room immediately. I was tired and keen for a shower, so took the Queen, also because the King's patio was right next door to gym so would hear treadmills etc when trying to sleep.

Welcome amenity i took points (these havent arrived yet, will follow up on my way out today).

Location is great, but Im a LES girl, cant stand being near times square, LES feels real (blend of gentrification and old school NY), you can walk the neighbourhood without tourists stopping and gawking and blocking your path. I noticed with all the new hotels in the area (i used to stay airbnb on mates rates with friends 3 blocks away but they sold during pandemic) prices for some of the cafes have increased, but there are plenty of bargain eats (Vanessa's dumplings still going strong).

The pros - Room on 9th floor is comfortable, very quiet, great natural light (and well placed lights), decent storage, large shower, plenty of convenient power points and great matress. Like other Indigos has floorboards, no icky carpet.

The cons - fridge is fully stocked with over priced snacks and if you move them you are charged, so cant use fridge for own items (need to use ice bucket). Room does come with USD$20 mini bar credit a day, but no sparkling water. Ive been making sure i pocket mini spirits to get the value.
