AFL finals can/will limit affordable accommodation in the city during September
Totally understand. The only 2 places with reasonable pricing are the Ibis Fawkner or the Bayview on the Park. Even motels are over $100/night.

I am arriving in MEL ~11:30pm Friday night on QF so should not be difficult getting into city then drive out early Saturday morning for golf, come back to change cars and then back to hotel to leave the car somewhere. And then I am playing golf close to MEL airport on Sunday morning but do not have a flight until ~9:00pm Sunday night.

Wouldn't have thought Kilmore, Kyneton or Goonawarra would be courses that one would travel from interstate just to play, but I am sure you will have an enjoyable time. My guess is they may be reciprocals of the OP 's club.

I like Victorian country courses and I was looking at courses on the outskirts of MEL closer to MEL airport than anything else.

I had a week long trip back in 2009 and played Morwell, Traralgon, Yallourn, Moe and Trafalgar and thoroughly enjoyed playing them.

I have played most golf courses along the Mornington Peninsula back in the 90's as well as many of the sandbelt courses such as Royal Melbourne (East and West), Kingston Heath, Commonwealth, Victoria and Woodlands.

I have played along the Murray River from Albury to Yarrawonga. I have also played 4 courses around Mildura.

When I get the time I also want to play golf courses along the Great Ocean Drive.

Haven't played the course at MEL airport. What is it called?

What has happened to accommodation rates in a week?

Back to the drawing board. :(

I just did. And the 50% off and the 30% off looks exactly the same to me. :(

Depends which hotel your looking at on which dates (not all of them have sale prices).

Just look at Melbourne, rather than a specific hotel...

I did. Ibis Citygate is coming up with the same price regardless of which link I am using.

I should have booked last week but I did not think rates were going to increase that much in a week.

Check in 13 September and check out 15 September.

Ibis Little Bourke $80 per night
Citigate Melbourne $90 per night

Ibis Kingsgate - sale price not available - probably what you see?

I did not see that rate for Ibis Little Bourke.

I won't have time to book until next week and hoping that rate stays around.

Look up the motels in Taylor's Lakes or Essendon. Taylor's lakes hotel in particular is fairly new and on the right side straight up the Calder for your golf. Good eating choices at the hotel also.

Staying at Sleep and Go, Preston tonight. I actually booked Budget 1 Hotel but apparently they are next to each other and very similar. I paid AUD64 for the room on Agoda and I am pleasantly surprised that I got such a great deal. I will also get 4% (? not sure of exact %) credit back to my Agoda account which makes the room even cheaper.

Room is small but I don't need that much room even though I am a big guy. Bathroom is tiny but it has clean towel, soap etc. Bed is small but sheets look OK. Microwave, tea making facilities and small fridge as well.

They want $7 for parking which I guess is an OK deal but I parked in some spots outside the boom gates so see what happens in morning.

Better to get to sleep now before I head off to Kilmore in morning.
