Hi Everyone.

After posting here earlier about being really, really nervous about flying I have now gone & returned from Europe.

Thanks to all here who provided such encouraging messages of support.

Please let me tell you the story.

I got to the airport, checked in and 10 minutes prior to final boarding, I froze. That's it, I couldnt go on, told my family, told the check in people, I would not go on that flight. My family were devistated. I left the airport alone and just caught bus after bus, wandering the streets in shock. What have I done was all I could think. I was a total wreck.

My 19 year old daughter was very, very supportive and helped me a lot. Two days later we were booked on another trip to London, thanks to some great Qantas staff, very helpful and considerate. Well I got that QF 1 flight in Premium and it was great, yes Great !!!!. It was nowhere near as bad as I had imagined. In fact you kind of forget you are in the air. Yes it was long, but quite managable.

Now, I did take a 5mg Valium on take off and that helped. However, I am so glad that I have now done it that I want to go again next year. I have seen London, Paris & Rome. I am a better/different person for that experience.

BTW on the flight from Syd to London the Captain made an announcement that the plane was delayed "as 2 passengers had decided they didnt want to fly with us so they have left the plane & their baggage was being removed". So they actually got on the plane & then got off. I didn't feel as bad.

Finally, I know Qantas get a lot of cough, but I would fly with them again, they were terrific, we had smooth lovely flights there and back. The cabin crew though were iffy but who cares, as long as the captain gets us safely there, that will do me.

So will definately do it again & I am so glad my kids will have the lovely memories.

Thanks all again.

Great to hear :) I have a husband that I call a 'freakin flyer' and requires drugs to get on an aircraft - domestically:( hhhhmm, maybe there is hope for him

Congratulations on taking that flight! and glad it went well and you are planning another!

This is really, really lovely to hear. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. And good on you for being able to do it! It wouldn't have been easy.

It gives me hope that my father will be able to fly to SIN/KUL next year for a family holiday.

Good on you.absolutely fantastic that you went back for the second go.
The world is now your oyster.

Yeah, going back for a second go was asy as I just thought, stuff this I can do it. As I said, full credit to my daughter who helped me through a very low point. Incidentally, it was nowhere near as bad as I had built it up in my mind.

Well done. Though it might turn into a problem.... You'll want to fly all the time.

Well done zac9, a great story and I'm glad you made it and got over that hurdle.

Nice work, that's great to hear!

I've lost actual skin on my arm from my wife's fingernails on a flight from Sydney to Wagga  .... she's better now than she used to be, but I can understand the hurdle you've jumped over.

Enjoy your future travels :D
