hsbc-star-alliance-card-art.pngWhy we like the HSBC Star Alliance credit card

Launched in 2022, the HSBC Star Alliance credit card is the first of its kind anywhere in the world. You'll earn Star Alliance Points which are transferable to a choice of seven Star Alliance member airlines at a time of your choosing. You can also earn Star Alliance Silver or Gold status just by spending on the card, with no flying required!

Once you qualify for the welcome offer and are fast tracked to Star Alliance Gold status with any of the seven participating carriers, you’ll soon be enjoying perks like airport priority lanes and lounge access when flying across the whole Star Alliance network. It is the largest airline alliance in the world with 25 member airlines, including Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, United and Turkish Airlines.

Please note that the welcome offer is not available to existing HSBC customers transferring from another HSBC credit card, or if you have previously held a HSBC Star Alliance credit card within the last 18 months. Refer to the full T&C’s for more information:

@prozac same here, v similar stats to you, early 60s but a very keen churner of 30ish CC's over the past 10 years (lol)....I think they might finally have me pegged o_O...ahh well, great while it lasted.
I;ve got a few years on you, however with significant steady investment income supplemented by some other contract ncome I thought I'd be a shoe-in. I am thinking they didn't recognise that I had knocked the income down with super contributions etc. This is what happens when you farm out the work to the Philippines. Either that or they are ageist.
Edit: Yes I'm pissed b/c I worked out I could easily make the $48k spend. I was hoping Star Gold might make it easier to get redemotion bookings. However I have since found a Euro J redemption return and a SIN-SYD First. Might have to hunt for a good SUB card. Any thoughts @Easy Tiger ?

@prozac Good strategy! I think I've resigned myself to slowly spending the c.2M points I have over a few years....then pay for J!! I've been knocked back for 3 cards in a row now and wonder whether I've been blacklisted or similar. As mentioned, great salary, (reas.) high net worth, 20K mortgage (deliberate), never missed a payment, top percentile credit score, nil other debt etc etc etc ...but I'm on the nose for some reason...maybe the chronic churn history! As I said, it was great while it lasted...we got to do 4 J around the worlds and probably go the points for 3 or 4 more if I play my cards right. ... happy days :)

Looks like you posted my resume. I also have a mortgage (60k and fully offset) to keep the loan alive. I only have 550k points with KF but they expire in September 26 so getting moving on using them. I was surprised when I found these booking the other day. Can't book yet because waiting for some medical stuff to resolve first.

Commiserations to those who have been knocked back, I still can't work out how they determine whether you're in or out. I've had 1 or 2 cards approved every couple of years for the past 10 years or so. Im 65 been retired with SMSF for 10 years but have no debt and paid in full every time so maybe that helps. What I'd like to know is if I don't want Gold status every year can I swap for 40,000 Star alliance points. I only fly j to Europe with Singapore so don't really need the Gold status.

When you choose your status airline, it asks if you are already gold with them, and if you are that you’d receive 40,000 Star Alliance reward points instead. I’m not sure whether they can/would check your gold status or if effectively that’s a way you can choose the 40,000 points instead of status. The T&Cs also refer to points being automatically given if you don’t choose a status airline after all their reminders.
