The Points Guy had something on 27/11/19 (sorry, can’t post the link at the moment) about non-stay purchases (cup of coffee) being credited by some Hyatt properties into your account. However, TPG is very USA-centric, so this may not work in Oz. And doesn’t work at all USA properties either, it seems.

Can you not buy some minimum amount of points to keep it going? How long before fresh points expire?
They may close your account after 24 months of no activity. Yes, buy them as a last resort. Not good value. But if nothing else, and no stays planned .......

Go to the Hyatt hotel and have a meal and use your membership number. I took my team out last Friday and spent a small fortune and was pleasantly surprised to see around 5k extra points in the account.

If you can getup to 5000 points you can redeem them on a cheap hotel.

You could stay a night in that lovely property overlooking the harbour.

Oh. But you wanted cheap. :)

I think this would work....booked a cash and points reward night in December 2020 with 2500 points + $. According to Ts and Cs , redemption counts as activity :) The cash component is only charged by the hotel when you check out....so I can cancel the stay deep into next year with return of my 2500 points ;)

As far as I know Hyatt points does not expire on my acct... I had points sitting there for almost 12 yrs, around 500K points... Is this new? Main Hyatt value is not having a expiring date..

They do expire now after 24 months of inactivity, unfortunately. I purchased minimum points, which counted as activity. so have another 24 months of life for my points balance.

My points expire at end of this month too but Hyatt screwed me around so much getting points credited properly after my last 3 stays that I have given up on them. Just not worth my time explaining their errors to them

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

But I’m assuming the easiest way is buying some points? Fortunately, there’s a 25% bonus offer just out (which is better than the 0% bonus I would get had I bought points in the weekend…😁).

Anyway, I have small but useable stash expiring this month but no immediate opportunity to redeem so need a cheap way to keep them going for another year. Probably not going to chance a coffee or meal at the Park Hyatt…

Hyatt is one of those outlier occasional stay programs that I mainly used through work travel but I’ve had a couple of freebie o/n stays in decent places. So useful to have some points in the back pocket.

I took the buying points option last month. I felt my stash, while not large, was worth holding on to, and buying points was a cheaper option than staying.

Yep. I noticed earlier that the 25% bonus doesn’t kick in until 5000 pts purchase and it’s actually a discount on price not pts + bonus pts. So now need to work out if I just buy the 2K min or plan ahead and buy enough for a more exotic redemption….

For those interested, I opted for the purchase pts option. They came through immediately.

Not for the purpose of keeping points from expiring but I purchase points from time to time when they are on special (like now) for the purpose of getting accomodation where points required is low (i.e Bali Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency). I've found it takes up to 48 hours to come through. I actually purchased points on yesterday evening (around 5.00pm AEDT) and still haven't received them, although expect to when I wake up in the morning.

Strange. I bought the min 5000 in the current 25% discount and they did literally post within minutes (if not seconds).

I would have bought more but didn’t really have a specific need in mind.

That is odd. My points still have not posted.

The frustrating thing is I want to use them for the booking. I'd be most peeved if the planned reservation (Grand Hyatt Bali Premium Suite with Club Access) was suddenly not available on the dates I had in mind. Hopefully by tomorrow they will arrive.
