How many FF do you have?

We (wife and I) currently have about
  • 162,000 QFF points
  • 87,000 AMEX Platinum points
  • 32,000 Westpac Altitude points
That is after two economy award return flights to LAX and one to SIN within the last 18 months for both of us. Just reached QF Gold flying discount economy, mostly domestic. I have only had an AMEX card about two years, didn't bother with CC's prior to that until I looked at how many points I could get; in fact I was about 35 yo before I owned a CC. I also have an insignificant amount of Velocity points and a couple of thousand Enrich points, probably of little use.

I have taken on board the advice here and elswhere not to overly hoard points; I lost a few with Ansett but not nearly as many as most here seem to have. But points don't accrue interest and the rail gets higher rather than lower so it makes sense to use them on international flights or upgrades when you can (domestic is simply not viable). I currently value a QF point up to around $0.013 or so based on their use on the more price inflated international routes even taking into account the taxes and hefty fines that are now added. Looking forward to racking up some points and SC's on AA flights over the next month in the US.

I currently have:

~700K QF points (a combination of flying and credit card)
~250K Amex points (will eventually become QF points)
~45K Starwood points (also will become QF points)
~150 NZ Airpoint dollars

Some orphan points with BA and UA... I may also build up some PC points too.

And no, I've no idea what to do with my QF points apart from using them for upgrades.

over 600k points all from flying or associated activities. I burn em as quick as I can having also lost a bucketload in the past with Ansett but at the moment I am busy enough flying with work to do much burning on anything other than upgrades as I get the chance.

Well, after the Global Rewards fiasco, I spread myself around ...
QF ~280,000 pts (mainly flying, some hotels) / Platinum
Amex ~ 300,000 pts
Altitude ~ 120,000 pts
Air NZ ~ 2,000 airbucks / Silver (nearly Gold again)
Krisflyer ~ 40,000 pts/PPS status
Velocity ~20,000 pts (thanks nab for the 15K bonus!)

Gotta start working on how to best use them - at least with one way awards offered can combine between programs. Did a one world Round the World in the J cabin using QF points this year, probably the best value I've had from points and I think will do again.

QF: 48,013 (+ 2 UC's)
DJ: 8,292
Amex: 83,436
Westpac: 13,997

I used approx 130,000 QFF points on some J award flights a few months back (20,000 points of which were trasferred over from Amex).

I rarely use my Westpac Altitude Visa card. After losing all my Global Rewards points I vowed to avoid using Westpac in protest.

EDIT: I should add that IMhO the airline points are only useful now for redeeming the more expensive international fares given the level that fuel fines and taxes have reached. They now have almost no value for local economy flights. I'm finding it hard to believe that FF programs are worth the effort at present.

I have 200,000 points, and I have in the past redeemed about 250,000 points.

In the past 12 months I have redeemed ~310K QFF points on flights; still have ~90K. (Hopefully, upgrades will eat that up soon).

... Burn em, I say!

I am finding that as a low points holder that local upgrades are my only real option. I lost 180k points on Ansett (earned in 18months :( and including my honeymon which had been booked on Ansett flight points - but I am not bitter [I just refuse to fly air new zealand now]) and then didnt do much travel for a while. SO most of my points have been used on upgrades and hopefully international upgrades - mind you most int'l travel for me now is business thus business class - mind you I might need to upgrade to NZ in a couple of months).

Back on topic though:

QF status - Silver
Points - 33K
Amex Points - 5K (only got my Amex a month or two back)

Just cashed in 50K of Diners points for cash which was worth it sort of...

QF 320, 210
Amex 37, 247
DJ 2,000 (? for 2 dom flights)

I recently used 192K for a J class SYD to SFO in August 2006.

In 2001 used 200K Ansett points to get a F class return SYD-SFO-SEA tix with United leaving me with only 4,000 points, and as Ansett went under just before I was due to return on Sept 11, I was one of the lucky ones.

After using 420k points for our honeymoon in Jan 06 and starting the year with 796 points, I am now back up to 65k points with a mixture of flying and CC spend.

With the "enhancements" coming thick and fast, as quick as I can build the balances up to an int'l J ticket, I burn 'em!!

Just used 325 K FF for 5 tickets BNG return so have 36K FF left and 75K Westapc altitude.

I note the talk of Ansett's collapse.

I was doubly lucky there as I redeemed 500K on 5 Cairo return tickets just 2 weeks before they collapesd for flights in Dec thru Feb well after they were gone. The doubly lucky part was that the flights were redeemed with Singapore airlines who decided to still honour the redemptions. phew.
Though I lost my Ansett Platinum Staus though :( and as I have travelled alot less workwise since have never gained high status with Qantas.

I have only just discovered this site though..and wished I had done previously.

Are there any lowly "Bronze" out that have been successful in getting an upgrade to "Business" on an International flight to LAX or LHR.

This gold has struck out on both routes, however I do know of one bronze who has been successful, however he was flying on Xmas day.

I am sure you have more points than the average Australian Qantas frequent flyer member.
