How many Award seats per flight???

I was just wondering what for international flights on say a 747 for example how many Award seats are generally made available on the initial allowcation one year out?

Does it vary widely, or is it pretty much a standrad allocation?

For other plane types is therea standard %, or again does it vary?



ie this will then give me somewhat of an idea of the odds of getting one, or in my case upto 5. I have made a number of redemtions for a part of 5 (Egypt, Thailand....and domestic)

In my case I am interested in what the economy bucket is, but others may be interested in the business and first allocations.

you can always use one of the on-line tools that displays fare buckets, and look for X bucket for standard economy class awards and T bucket for those available to Gold and Platinum members.

I use ExpertFlyer, but that requires a subscription. Not sure of the current status of free sites like Seat Counter??

My understanding is that it varies widely depending on popularity of the flight, seasonal factors etc etc. All part of the black art of yield management,

Even when you can see the X fare buckets the most you will see is X9. This means at least nine but could very well be more.

Assume u are talking about Qantas seats. Black art sums it up. For Air NZ though every seat on the plan is available for award. However what you pay is dependent on what fares are selling for on any particular day. Virgin Blue have similar program for domestic awards, but the points required can become quite hefty once the cheap fares sell out. There is a suggestion floating around that Qantas will be enhancing there program to do likewise.
