It'll be a long time before I fly in a 787. The problem for me isn't so much JQ but the 787.

I don't trust Lithium batteries in the air. They are a major fire risk. The FAA requires that all Lithium batteries on passenger flights to be carried in the passenger cabin, not in checked luggage, due to their known fire risk. Yet they've allowed Boeing to power their 787 with Lithium batteries, and one pack of batteries is right under the flight deck! Boeing's solution to the onboard battery fire earlier this year was to put a metal box around the batteries and a vent to outside to get rid of the smoke and toxic fumes. It took airport firefighters 90 minutes to extinguish that fire. What's going to happen if there's such a battery fire in the middle of the Pacific?

I don't want to panic you but pretty much all aircraft have lithium batteries now, and your statement about all batteries being required to be in the cabin is not true, it's only mandated for passenger luggage contents where they are loose "spare" units.

135 incidents recorded, most not involving a dreamliner:

Well, personally I reckon there'd be more chance of you getting onto a delayed flight in general than getting involved in a car accident on your daily commute. But, I reckon there'd be a far more greater chance of you getting into a car accident on your way to work or wherever than falling out of the sky. ;)

Btw, just noticed on the JQ website that whilst the upcoming 787 flight on the 13th is now $199, there's no sign of the return flight around 15:30, or whenever it was, that day. Has it been cancelled, or is it full up already? If it was full, would've thought it'd still show up but just as "not available".

For those who have booked the return flight with the price beat, have you received any emails about a cancellation, or perhaps it is the media flight and not aimed much at the public...

There is, however, another 787 flight returning on Friday 15th...

Edit: Yep, the return flight has been sold out, as confirmed by the price beat dude on the phone. Aaw, bummer! Something official going on with that one!

Have booked the return leg as a TT price match. The guy I spoke to was very impressed to find you could have a star class seat for an extra $24.

OT: Received email o/n that flt MEL-DPS Dec 21 also upgraded A330 to 787 - 2 x complimentary QP passes courtesy HSBC will ease the pain of outward leg - still gotta come home o/n JQ Y though - guess it won't kill me.

Not sure exactly what date 787 commences MEL-DPS route - anybody?

According to some of the posts in the thread earlier, it's 18th December but I don't know if it's just me but I can't see the 787 loaded onto the 18th Dec MEL-DPS flight..?

A bit of me regrets not having booked these flights now, and yes the OOL-MEL must be the media flight as it started off too $$$$

I'm on the MEL-OOL flight. I have been waiting for this plane for years and wouldn't miss the Australian inaugural. Missed out on *class but got an exit row for $10. Booked a QF reward on the way back.

Very exciting!

As I said yesterday, I suspect the only people on that OOL-MEL flight will be media, important people/AFFers ;)

Crikey - are you suggesting AFFers are not important people?

Jeez Louise - try telling Tony Whocock and Crookedman that they are not important people! :D

Hahaha I thought someone might pick up on that! I have changed the original post as the two are interchangeable :p

I"m booked on the MEL - OOL flight, seated in 34A (after getting all excited about being able to give me the *class seat for only $24, the agent on the phone suddenly realised they'd all been sold out and didn't seem so chirpy anymore lol)

Heading home OOL - MEL on the JQ439 which leaves around 4:30pm I think, an hour after the departure of one partay-plane.

From about 12% loaded to sold out at midnight last night wow. Who on earth will my seat mate be? Today Tonight or A current affair?

just out of interest blackcat20. what price did they match you the $89 or the $69. My agent clearly wasn't looking at what she was doing and price matched the 69. ;) one very happy camper here!

It is loaded on 18/12 :)

For some strange reason I still can't see it. I am using the QF website to look this flight up... Is it JQ35/36?

EDIT: ok I see it on the J* website as JQ35 10am departure

the QF site doesn't show that flight but does show another JQ35 departing at 6.45pm...
