How many AFFers will be on the first JQ787 commercial service MEL OOL Nov 13?

I don't refuse to fly JQ, I have done so on numerous occasions. For me they are a necessary evil, like dental visits and Pap smears.
FWIW on my last JQ flight, my seat buddy did this:

for the duration of the flight.
However I hope all those on the inaugural trip have a great flight, a great bunch of AFF'ers on there I think.
For myself, I will continue to fly JQ only when I really need to.

Must bookmark that picture for when someone asks why I prefer not to fly JQ in the future!

LOL that brings back some funny memories..........being a regular J* passenger (MCY-SYD-MCY) I've seen some strange sights! Can't complain too much - it's provided great entertainment at dinner parties.

OMG Princess Fiona! That photo bought back memories of a particularly revolting seat buddy I had from MEL to BKK - smelly unwashed backpacker in shorts and singlet who obviously had a very long night on the grog the night before AND consumed enough garlic to kill a vampire! And there wasn't another seat I could move to! The trials of travel in Y!

I see what you mean - those jeans are so nineties.

The inaugural MEL-OOL flight is now $129 (seems to be increasingly hourly)

If you want to take the return OOL-MEL flight which is currently going for $429 (wtf?) you could try the JQ price beat guarantee. There is a tiger flight TT975 departing at 14:45 (within 1 hour) currently on sale for $84.95 - with the 10% off that's $76.46!

will the inaugural MEL to DPS flight be available for award bookings? Presume the first MEL to OOL won't be.

Yep true that for the return but I wouldn't want to fly JQ twice in a day........

Yep was $89 this morning, then $99, then $109, then $119, then $129. I expect it to be $199 by later tonight

The MEL-OOL sector was similarly priced earlier. I assume they were/are still loading the inventory, or lots of people want to be crammed into a cylinder.

You can also get the MEL-OOL sector for ~110AUD if you're looking from the right place.

I can find it for $98.10. ;)

As long as you're earning SC + points then I'm ok with that ;)

I won't be on the first commercial flight - but looks like will get to fly it XMAS on our Bintang Bogan Adventure to Bali - just received this in an email:

Congratulations! Your flight(s) will be operated by Jetstar’s new Boeing 787 Dreamliner*

Hi Cruiser Elite

Still won't make up for the pain of an overnight flt DPS-MEL - have just been informed that JQ Y is not quite as good as SQ Suites - is this true?

I ant to take it from Mel to OOL and back, is it possible to have the 787 there and back. Ie just get of and on again if I check in for both flights in Mel? In reality this wouldn't be a problem but they have their rules and stuff...

JohnPhelan, it is hardly newsworthy.

While not a domestic Australian operator, AirIndia has already beaten JQ to the punch for SYD and MEL (and with even a one way ticket to India one could under 'own stopover' traffic rules depart MEL on one of its triangular flights, stop off in SYD, then on another day fly to India).

PrincessFiona, although MEL's changeable climate has something to do with it, I rarely see bare feet on Melbourne's public transport at this time of year. What you had to put up with would be terrible, especially for Australia's own royalty. 'You would not be amused."

I have flown both JQ (with unsmiling staff) and TT (with overenthusiastic fairly smiley staff) and so prefer TT, but both are not as good as D7, 5J or 2P to name three LCCs that quickly come to mind. The latter either have diversions such as onboard games (5J), excellent beds in the equivalent of J (D7) or good snacks and what I have found to be staff that look after passengers (all three of the latter).

While many if not all aircraft (like most cars, trucks, trains, trams, ferries and buses) have teething problems, this plane has had more than its fair share. The experts' indecision as to whether some matters really are resolved is worrying for the majority of the population who are not LAMEs.

pass.... there will be plenty of opportunities to fly on a boeing 787 once Jetstar add more of this aircarft to the fleet. Not sure of the attraction to be first on.
